Guy Gets Death Threat Over Xbox Live, Has To Pay To Change His Gamertag |

This isn't personal, and has nothing to do with how "easily identifiable" he is. Zatz needs to deal with it.

I have a friend in the Marines who loves CoD and he said more than half of his squad plays it regularly so it's really not out of the question.
I'd be scared too.

You can setup your account to where no one but your friends can contact you. You can also mute everyone but your friends as well. There's asshats on PSN too, and they're in your town right now. There's no escaping idiots really.

"However, this seemed like a good opportunity to change my Gamertag to something a bit more anonymous. You see, when I originally setup Xbox Live I had zero intention of gaming with others. It was all about downloading high definition movies. And I've never been shy about interacting online without a veil of anonymity. But, going forward, why tempt fate?"
The "this seemed like a good opportunity to change my Gamertag to something " makes it look like he was trying to get it changed for free.
Then there's the whole aspect of him publishing his story (with links to his picture), which now makes it even MORE likely that the guy can track him down. Hi Dave Zatz of Washington DC. I like that picture of you with the hand held looking all smug.
Either way, the blame here shouldn't be on microsoft. If he wanted it handled officially, he should have called the police. The police wouldn't advise you to change your name if someone threatens you in real life, and if they did, you'd have to foot the bill for it, so why should Micosoft have to foot the bill for this virtual name change?

You would be amazed at what people say to get something free.
Just reading this article it made me mad at Microsoft at first. In fact, as usual when it comes to Microsoft, that's probably what the point of the article was. However; just apply some common sense and you'll see in their position you'd do the same thing.

They don't care that someone is making death threats?
Can that be investigated or something?
I'd bash Microsoft.. Here. But I'd say most customer service representatives don't give a crap about anything but getting their paycheck.

"damn, another call before my break."
or
"why do I always get the weird calls."
