    I drive past a house where they have multicolored flashing lights in the shape of a Star of David. It makes me think of King David in Vegas.

    I never did understand why the cross became such a symbol for Jesus. I'm just thinkin' that if the Second Coming happened and Jesus came down and saw all these people wearing and displaying miniature versions of the thing he was nailed to and left to die on he'd be a little creeped out.

    @korybing: You know. I never really thought about it. Why would someone use a symbol of Christ's death to celebrate his birth. Strange.


    I believe the original symbol that Christians used was the fish. Kind of like the fish you see on the back of people's cars nowadays. I think they used to use the symbol to denote where meeting places would be and safe places for Christian's to go to escape persecution. The cross was originally a pagan symbol and was adopted by the Catholics.


    I don't know if that's true or not, but that's what I heard, and I believe everything I hear... unless I hear something that contradicts something I've already heard.

    @Rabid Penguin: It's the Ichthys, and was the symbol of the early church. It has several possible meanings - the feeding of the multitudes, the fact that many of the disciples were fishermen. I believe you're also right about the cross being a "christianized" pagan symbol (much like the saints, christmas, etc.)

    Let's be fair here... That picture is kinda overexposed and gives that flamey burning cross look to it. I am sure it real life the thing looks much less like a symbol of hate and more like a tacky piece of crap.

    agreed it could very easily be a case of mistaken intentions but how sucky is that, trying to do something different for a Christmas decoration, and it just comes out tacky and misunderstood.
