Verizon's CTIA Phone Lineup: Remakes and Sequels

CTIA comes but twice a year, and it gives the telecoms and phone makers a chance to show off their coolest stuff. Verizon Wireless apparently has its hands full with the whole open-network thing, because instead of unveiling something potentially sweet like the LG VX9700 or VX8560, its lineup of CTIA phones looks pretty ho-hum. Yes, there's a new BlackBerry Curve 8330 and a slimmer enV, but even those and the other handsets from HTC, Motorola and Samsung suffer from a re-heated leftover vibe: More »

Sprint, Verizon 6700 Get Unofficial WM6 Updates

A forum member on PPCGeeks patched up a version of Windows Mobile 6—complete with HTC's fancy home screen on the HTC Touch—for the aging Sprint and Verizon 6700 phones. It's not compatible with the 6800 (the Sprint Mogul, which already has WM6), so don't install it there. But if you want to get some extra life out of your old phone, here ya go. Since it's user-made, there are no guarantees that it won't brick your phone, however. [PPCGeeks]

Verizon Readying a 15 Phone Barrage for the Rest of '07

Phone Arena snagged some docs laying bare the rest of Verizon's 2007 release schedule—no major surprises here, with most of the heavy hitters Verizon versions of stuff we've already seen, or at least heard about: the Blackberry Pearl, for instance, isn't exactly tingling our spines with freshness. [BGR is saying it's a Pearl 2.] Hit the jump for a down-and-dirty bullet point run-through of the fall spoilers.

Verizon XV6800 Spyshot

In a surely James Bondish scene complete with lasers and campy theme songs, someone grabbed some shots of the Apache successor, the Verizon XV6800. No big changes here cosmetically, other than what is certain to be a slightly slimmed waistline. Otherwise you get some EV-DO Rev A, improved camera, and other very normal stuff. We're not saying Bond wasted his time, we just hope he didn't need to kill anyone for the shot. More »

Sharp XV-Z21000 1080p DLP Projector: Big Rez, Not Cheap

Yes, that looks like an alphabet soup, but suffice to say that this XV-Z21000 is one sharp projector from Sharp. That highly desirable 1080p number is the holy grail here, representing the pinnacle of our current HDTV spec. Sharp is also quoting some other big numbers, such as a contrast ratio of 12000:1. We'll believe it when we see it. More »
