”Dream PC: 8-Core Workstation Rocks the Penryns (Verdict: WOW!)
HP is cranking out some smoking workstations these days, and the latest Intel Xeon quad core processors, affectionately known as the Harpertown chips with 45-nanometer Penryn technology inside, take Windows performance to the next level. HP shipped us the fastest workstation they could muster, with a total of eight processor cores, along with a 15,000 RPM SAS (Serial-Attached SCSI) drive on two separate disks, one with Windows XP and the other with Windows Vista, plus a 250GB SATA drive for applications. We opened the box, ran a bunch of benchmarks and our jaws promptly dropped. How much workstation can you get for $8,551? Join us for the smokefest.

Pioneer Music Streams Music Around your Pad Wirelessly (kind of)
Pioneer's Power Line Communication Music Tap can stream your tunes all around your house using the power lines, but the features don't end there. The main base station, the XW-PSS01, has two USB inputs and three auxiliary inputs and supports MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 and AAC. Plug the base unit into the wall power outlet and supported speakers throughout your home will recognize that the unit is plugged in. The supported S-speaker even includes a motion sensor that will begin streaming music from the base station when a presence is detected in the room and it will turn off after a set period of inactivity. This system is just dying to be paired up with a satellite radio receiver, in my opinion. It should be available mid-March. Pricing information has yet to be announced. More »

Fastest AMD Opteron vs. Intel Core 2 Extreme: (Verdict: Close, But Too Close)
AMD Opteron 2220SE 2.8GHz processors make their debut on the just-released HP xw9400 Workstation today, and they were tested on content creation benchmarks against the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor. The result? Even with two of the latest Opterons chugging away, the xw9400 barely beat the 2.93 single-processor Core 2 Extreme Precision Workstation 390 from Dell, and was even soundly beaten on some of the tests.
