No siree. The enterprising DIY lamp artist looked at the orange and gray plastic and saw a lamp. A few hours and one fabricated cardboard NES cartridge stand later, that laughing dog was back in action, ready to haunt my dreams once again. If this model played the level intro music I'd be tempted to break out the glue gun, but for now I'll just marvel at its brilliance from afar. [Craftster via Boing Boing Gadgets]

<![CDATA[ Lego Zapper Mod: Everything You Love About Guns, Gaming and Legos ]]> It doesn't look like it would be all that comfortable to wield, but we are talking about a Lego zapper mod here —so who really cares. It may not be as comfortable as commercial zappers, but the thing to keep in mind is that it works. And by the looks of things it probably won't be all that difficult to pull off yourself. <![CDATA[ Wii Zapper Hands On (Verdict: Shoot From the Hip) ]]> Nintendo's gun peripheral has a slot for your Wiimote, and comes with Link's Crossbow training. It's no duck hunt, but it's really fun. The Good: High build quality, battery-less design, fairly accurate, Tommy-gun design of the Wii Zapper makes me feel like Wii Capone. Inexpensive, since it doesn't introduce electrics, depending on the Wiimote's exisiting buttons. Fun would be an understatement.

The Bad: The "A" button is awkward to hit, any sort of gangster sideways pistol action hurts accuracy. (Like in real life?) Unlike light guns, the Wiimote's aim does not literally translate into direct targeting; hence, aiming toward the edge of large screens makes accuracy dive. You're meant to shoot from the hip with this setup.

<![CDATA[ Wii Zapper Box Makes Us a Little Excited ]]> Our extended family at Kotaku just dropped this image of the Wii Zapper's official box. Sure, the cardboard antics will not get you wet in your nether regions, but the bundled Link Crossbow Training mini game extra and all its confirmed zappy goodness just might. The game will involve three different set player modes including; Target Shooting, a shooting gallery adventure, Defender, where you remain stationary and are subject to onslaught from the horrible orks and other assorted baddies and the final game, called Ranger, which will allow you to wander about and just go nuts. Kotaku have the full press release, so hit up the link to check it out. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[ Parents Think Wii Zapper Might As Well Come With an NRA Application ]]> NJ.com, your source for "everything Jersey" asked people what they thought of the "gun-like" Wii Zapper in their weekly Question of the, um, Week segment. The responses poured in and they were extremely negative. The catch, though, is that the site had originally posted a picture of a gun other than the Wii Zapper, which let's face it, looks more Star Trek than NRA. Check the outrage after the jump.

Great, this is what we need. Children with guns learning how to aim and shoot. Then we can sit back and wonder what is happening to our country with kids killing kids......what's next? Could we make it squirt blood, too" one reader commented.
A "very concerned grandparent" wrote: "....Why don't they enclose an application to the NRA in every box as well....the marketing person who came up with this brain child of an idea should be fired."

Another reader commented, "I think it's irresponsible for Wii to come out with a controller that looks like a gun so kids can play games simulating shooting. What kind of message are we sending as parents when we buy these things for our kids?"

Either way, guess these guys missed Duck Hunt. [NJ.com via Fark] ]]>

<![CDATA[ Hands-on Wii Zapper Assembly Video ]]> Ashcraft and Crecente from Kotaku got a hands-on demonstration with the Wii Zapper. The video shows how you put the thing together—a combination of the Nunchuck and the Wiimote—but it also shows Ashcraft demonstrationg his acting chops. The Zapper is actually kind of uncomfortable, seeing as the two grips that you put your hands on are a bit close. It's like holding a Tommy gun, except possibly even more awkward. What's also weird is that the trigger was in the front, and not the back as you'd expect. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[ Nintendo Wii Zapper, Mario Kart Wheel On The Way ]]> accessory_zapper.jpgThe Wii Zapper is a piece of plastic that holds the Wii's Wiimote and nunchuk together like a gun, for shooting games. $20 bucks with software. There's a wheel coming for Mario Kart, too.

— Mario Kart(R) Wii (name not final): Nintendo's classic racing franchise goes online. It launches with the Wii Wheel(TM) (name not final), a steering wheel housing for the Wii Remote that lets veterans and newcomers compete together. Launches globally in early 2008.

— Wii Zapper(TM) (name not final): This unit houses both a Wii Remote and
a Nunchuk(TM) and comes packaged with Nintendo software to show off its

<![CDATA[ E3 2006: Wii Peripherals And Hands-On Gameplay Impressions ]]>

One of the first things Team Giztaku spotted at Nintendo's booth at E3 this morning was the Wii Zapper, under glass in the peripherals case—no Duck Hunt announcement sadly, and there weren't any games on the floor using it, but we were still pretty excited to see it regardless. The first two games we got to play were Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy; you can check out hands-on impressions of the Wii Nunchuk-style gameplay for both games over on Kotaku.
