A little ring at the base of the cable split. When you throw em in your pocket simply slide the ring up to the headphones.
Problem solved.
For about $30 you also get
Removable over ear clips if you want to wear totally in ear like a standard bud.
ear clips are soft rubber not hard plastic, I don't even realize I am wearing them.
2 lengths of cable (short for shit pocket + additional length for pant's pocket
The longer length has a right angle plug to minimize tension on the phones and the jack
multiple soft inserts for different ear sizes and preferences.
My solution for tangled headphones? Untangle them right away instead of letting them get even more tangled at an exponentially faster rate. Simple as that.
After they are zipped up, how do they wrap up for storage? I prefer the over/under method but I think that thick plastic would not curl up or wrap now. hmm
@GitEmSteveDave_MakesUJump!Jump!: My cat has chewed 3 sets of apple headphone cables into oblivion. I guess he likes the feel of the rubber floss on his teeth.
IIRC, almost 3/4 of the zippers in the world are made by a company called YKK. Go ahead, check your zippers, I bet they say YKK on them. If they don't, find that cute girl in your office and ask to inspect her zippers. I'll wait.
@TheStig'sNJCousin_GitEmSteveDave: another little known fact involves the YKK bug, which has as a consequence all the the zippers in the world unzipping on September 9th, 2009.
I already have my Stewie boxers picked out for the big day.

Someone at Sony still knows what they are doing.

I think I'd rather take the minute to untangle them than wait a day for a cat to poop 'em out.
