I wish scientists would focus on trying to find an alternative fuel for cars or transportation in general BEFORE trying to allow the damn things to drive themselves.

@Grendel: But by letting the cars drive themselves, we WOULD save more gas than probably even alternative fuels would. Picture a lane of hybrid cars drafting down the freeway at a constant speed. Not compare that to a bunch of people accelerating/decelerating. It would also cut down on traffic, as most of your stop and go traffic is caused by people speeding up to quickly, forcing them to stop, which makes the traffic get worse. If we all slowed down to a constant speed, we would rarely have to stop for traffic.
