People seem not to understand the form factor, when they say it's "too big". I believe that Samsung has hit upon the IDEAL form factor for those who object to wearing headphones and just want something to listen to when at work, where BIG sound would be undesireable. You don't always have to FEEL the sound. The form factor can't be improved upon! Attaching the speakers is a GOOD thing - you never have to fear losing them, or get yourself tangled in the wire needed to connect them. The speakers are designed to work with the unit, so it makes sense that it's a single piece. Granted 8 gig would be better, but then so would 100. 4 gigs is JUST enough to make this form factor worth while, if not the be all to end all. 4 gigs + FM is 92% on the sufficiency scale. And how many things exceed that, without requiring the use of those DAMNED earplugs? I NEVER use earplugs, or headphones! And if the speakers were just 1 increment bigger, well, you get my point.

NauticusLX

WOW! this mp3 owns i jst ordered it after reading this site from bestbuy they had a canada day sale so i saved 56 dollars with the original price being 229....the sound quality is great loud enough to have some fun with..it isnt as bulky as it looks! the screen is a bit finger printy but not worse then my black cell phone...you only generally see the marks in the sun or bright light.the photos turn out quite nice i think. The alarm is amazing. The headphones are very cosy and fit great in my ears they nevar fall out like I-POD ONES.If you have the slightest erge to buy it dont hezitate i know u will love..its sexi

Springer07

wow people. quit comparing this product to a nano. its called a nano because its small. if you dont want added speakers and it to be smaller, dont get this version of samsung's mp3 products. This is obviously not their only one. and also, this is great, I've had SOOOO many friends say "hey, check out this song!" and I have to share their earbuds? sorry, but that kinda disgusts me. this way, the instant you unfold it, it starts playin the music for everyone you want, to hear. and the quality of those speakers are really freakin nice. And someone has a good point, samsung has to keep it original..ish, and different, otherwise, why the hell would you get rid of your nano for a samsung version, especially if it is EXACTLY the same, you wouldnt. I bet most of you havent even seen it in person, dont talk shit about this until you actually play with it, it is extremely user friendly, really easy to operate, quick to learn. stupid IPOD has the spin the dial thing, and alot of the time you scroll pass what you wanted, this is alot nicer. and just to lighten things up a little, you guys call it a brick? okay, okay. unfold it, not much of a brick now huh? lol. OH another great thing about his product is, you dont have to BUY your songs from apple. its not a mandatory fomat. thus saving you TONS of money, if you already have the songs. which most of the time, you do cuz all you gotta do is rip your cds on to your comp. also saves money cuz if you think about it, if your ipod can hold thousands of songs, guess what, youre paying thousands of dollars just to fill it up. so dont just diss on a product till you know more about it. all youre going off of is what you can see, dont judge a book by its cover. only sometimes does that work, and that is definitely not the case with this.

Jman69

Ive actually got this MP3 Player and its brilliant. Everybody wants to have a look at it and it works like a dream. Its got plenty of space and is actually quite slim line. It appears bigger in the photos and is SMALLER than the Ipod which has max memory. Its the size of an average I-Pod. The sound is crystal clear and the speakers are beautiful, with really good sound. The headphones that come with the product are a very strange design, and i prefer the more tradditional type, however they sound great. The FM Radio function works well and the unique styling of this product nakes it extrmley attractive. It would be good if the speakers swivelled, but you cant have everything Its also very well priced, especially for the UK

nanciesquid

Hmmm....

Pay $250 for a nano and another $20+ for speakers...

or pay $210 with the speakers included. I think I'll save myself $40 and have the pleasure of not having to shove those earbuds in my ears. All in all, I think it's a great MP3 player for the money, and the alarm is just an added bonus.

I think its pretty slick, it reminds me of the LG Chocolate Phone with that slick one piece look. I dont care that the speakers arent removable thats perfect so you dont misplace the speakers and its a stand as well...neat. The only thing I would have wanted in this MP3 player is video otherwise its a solid 8.5 on my nerd scale.

Great article!

I don't know what the big deal (in the above comments) is about the non-removable speakers. Despite the form factor's size, I do like the fact that it's part of the whole. Having it be removeable would be an option, but I don't think that's the aim of this product. It would just be yet another piece of the gadget to keep track of.

I have to agree with the reviewer about it not having a clock face, though. It's a big missed opportunity to turn this into something that most (competing) MP3 players are not.

Battery life: w/speakers, 6 hours, but damn, THIRTY hours without?!? How the hell did they manage that?

Also how usable is the song management (ie loading/deleting songs, adding playlists, etc)?

RiceBandit

Mixed here. I love the display and the overall form factor, but the fact that you can't take the speakers off is a detractor for me. Put it in your (cargo) pocket and wipe out your credit cards? It would be real tight if you could take the speakers off and reduce it's thickness by 60% if you wanted to. Meh...

Just another mp3 player. And a $200 alarm clock to boot? c'mon! Hardly 8.4.

I'd say it's closer to 3.2.

Good gadget for a traveler. It'll sell well in the Skymall catalog (Which is where I imagine it'll end up...)

dufus

This thing is awesome if You like to listen to music in your office and work with people with music preferences matching yours! I work with few people, and everyone's got earbuds almost all the time. When we want to communicate it's easier to do it with IM then to talk /well.. to talk to someone You have to wave your hand ;) /. With this thing we could listen to some radio or some mp3s that everybody likes to listen ;]
When plugged in to USB the 6h play time with speaker is issue no more.
Enough about the use... it's just an excuse to buy such a cutie! So what it's a 'bit' large? My bag is so much larger....
Huge? I can't help but laugh at how quickly people have decided that something "about 3 times the thickness of a nano" is huge. Did you ever carry a Sony tape walkman around back in the day? People managed back then so I figure for this extra functionality I can cope with something this 'huge'.

My friends who own Nano's all have their players in cases anyway which doubles the thickness as otherwise the thing scratches instantly so 50% thicker again for some speakers doesn't seem too bad to me! I'll stick with my Z5 for day to day use but this would be great to take on holiday or to a conference to use in a hotel room.

Fluidity

That was Acually pretty cool but it seems there is no video support. Even with a speaker attached this just is a litte expensive for a last gen technology. If it had more memory and video it would be a 9.0. But without i give it a solid 7.

Ryanraven

I like the design. I like the sleek black sexyness. I like the internal speakers. But like you said, it is quite chubby.

Im thinking of buying this, and taking off the internal speakers by hacking it. I know that defeats the point but with the mp3 player only, this would be a great iPod nano killer!

worldwidejustindomination
