The 01 and 01+ had only 8 MB of video memory, and Google Earth requires 64 MB to run.

I canceled my order for the 02...it was momentary insanity to think I could afford this.

gadjitfreek

I placed my order for the "Best" model with XP Tablet (I don't need Vista)and the traveller's package. I opted for the 12 months interest-free payment. It will hopefully here in 8-10 weeks, and then I can sell my Fujitsu Tablet. I did the measurements...it is the exact same dimensions as my HP 200LX, but about 15mm shorter in length. Perfect.

gadjitfreek

wait wait wait.....sprint EVDO? now just replace the HDD with an SSD, sell it to me without an OS for a nice little discount (because linux on an OQO would pwn the hell out of the UMPC) and i'm set.

rimplestultskin

And that would be why there was a fire sale for the OQO 01+ on Woot! the other day ($800, wow!). I sorta figured there was a new model coming out... I guess Transmeta bit the big one, huh? Gotta be a hard loss to lose a company that created its product around the Crusoe processor.

Black looks good, but the design is no longer PowerBook/MacBook in its simplicity... And I swear it looks a lot chunkier than the tiny increases in physical dimensions report... Too bad they didn't upgrade the screen resolution... And it looks like the video is actually a downgrade now, being integrated into the chipset now, instead of a dedicated GPU.

$300 price increase? Wow, they really don't want this to be more than a niche product, do they...?

Word to Apple: You want a tiny tablet platform? Buy these guys out! They're former Apple fellows anyway, so it's a shoe-in!

Tony C

It looks like OQO heard my plea...I sold my OQO 01+ mostly because I detested the membrane keyboard. It just felt cheap and flimsy. It looks like they took the keyboard from my HP 200LX (which I still own and love), squared off the button edges and slapped it on the Model 02. I really like the looks of this thing. One big question...does it have enough shared video memory to run Google Earth? This could be the mini-lappie I sell my Fujitsu P1510D and Dell Axim X51v to buy. I would have to get the extended battery, of course. It will still be three months or so before you can actually buy this thing...but it will be at just the right time to take my summer storm-chasing trip. This OQO will fit into my gear bag perfectly!

gadjitfreek
