Getting a dod involves taking care of him. Your dog needs exercise and a good thing is to bring him outside in a parc or in nature. Walking is also good for you guys ! Plus, walking your dog allows to set boundaries with dicipline. You don't need these things to make your dog happy... Come on, go outside !

Like_my_dog

None of my dogs seem to understand a treadmill, so I don't see how in the world I'd get them to use one - it would take more time and effort to do so than just walking them.

Of course, my preferred method is just opening the door, let them run in the (huge) backyard we have, and play with them. In the winter, well, running and jumping through the house seems to satisfy them as well. (It helps to have wide open areas in the house to run and jump, but straight segments of long stairs work great as well (curved stairs are hard on the joints).

So technically, we don't have to let our dogs out for a walk if we don't want to - they get exercise and fun at home. But that's because there's enough open areas to play indoors, and a huge backyard to play fetch and stuff outdoors.

Worf

I agree with diverguy. Dogs like walks not just because of exercise, but because they get to smell things. Dogs use their noses as we use our eyes and ears: for entertainment.

WCD_Thor

People that use this sort of thing to walk their dogs, should not be dog owners.

Then again, parents that use the TV and/or game console to babysit their kids, should not be parents either...

diverguy
