Uh, Newman, Microsoft fixed these security flaws in two patches, one released last month and the other released last year. Plus you have to be running IE6 to be affected. So... you were saying, what, exactly about Microsoft not caring about security?

Hamm Beerger

Yes only 3 percent of Apple comments should be allowed for public viewing, the rest should be just viewable by people using Apple browsers. If you don't use Firefox you're going to run into problems as MS doesn't take security seriously. They are in denial until it's such a huge problem they have to fix it. Up until that time they don't want to admit to anything so you're on your own. IE and Outlook are the two biggest causes of security problems, just get Outlook and Firefox to have a fighting chance.

Hello_Newman

SUMMERALL: That's gotta hurt. We've seen that one before, haven't we?

MADDEN: Yeah, but this been the story of this hosting company all season long, poor defense. And look at what they're using for a safety! A seven-year-old Checkpoint firewall that frankly, should have retired last season.

SUMMERALL: It's certainly not up to the offensive blitz the Hackers have brought to the game.

MADDEN: Having a good firewall is absolutely critical when you're facing the kind of high-profile, in-your-face offensive onslaught the Hackers have been playing this year. Look how they scored, a simple buffer overflow. This should have been patched earlier, but it wasn't. The offense waited until the right moment, and BOOM! they're behind the firewall, with nothing between them and root.

SUMMERALL: We're going to take a quick break while some equipment is carried off the field. From here at Dolphin Stadium, the score is: Bears 0, Colts 0, Hackers 1. Back in a moment.

bunny_rabid

Good point Nova, a quick check shows the website is running on good old Microsoft!

Who'd have thought anyone could hack a MS web-server product, insert malware code, and infect innocent Windows users without them downloading anything.....

What a great company - with great products - go Bill, you're the man...

DrD

unpatched xp running ie 6 or lower.

while is upsetting that people could get hijacked by a drive by download, i think its more frightening that so many corporate web servers were hacked and infected.

i wonder what OS these servers were running? they probably rooted it with an old Slapper worm

nova
