Are people really too lazy to crouch next to the cooler for a full minute? It's not like a battery-powered device is more presentable at a party where you'd need this ability...

When done right (an inexact mix of spinning and settling, with a couple taps on the top before opening), you can definitely take a beer from "back-seat-of-the-car hot" to "immediately drinkable" in about 60 seconds. Works best with cans, but it can be done for glass bottles, too. Plastic bottles don't conduct heat well enough for this trick to be truly useful. Foam and over-carbonation isn't a problem if the spinning is done right, though spinning and shotgunning really don't mix.

@Ahnyer Keester -- Agreed that Americans overchill their beers... and that domestic macrobrews deserve to be ice-cold (because there's nothing to taste anyway). But there are plenty of beers that can use a slight drop below room temperature to open up the flavor profile.

Deadly Tango

doesn't mean put ice in your beer...it means that using the straw to circulate the ice cools the drink. Whitea is saying that the amazin beer chiller probably spins the beer around the ice water to cool it down!

Spinning is different from shaking, so no it wouldn't explode. It works by getting all the liquid in the can near the surface of the can which is in contact with the ice water.

This product is a rip-off of several products already on the market, including this one invented by a friend of mine (and readily available at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Linen's n' Things, Sam's Club...etc. for $60 to $80):

http://www.coopercooler.com/press_release.html

It's a lot classier looking and does wine bottles as well as cans.

Wouldn't the can or bottle of beer explode if you attempted to open it immediately after chilling it in this manner? I would suspect that chilling a beer in two minutes loses its luster if you can't open said beer for another five to ten.

rictorgadget

No, it doesn't. That method dilutes the drink. This gets a can cold from the outside. That's good when you run out of cold ones and have to head over to the garage. Or does Giz normally drink beer on ice?

bandit
