I have a 24-pound monster kitty named Tybalt (we're guessing part of his ancestry is Maine Coon Cat, but since both he and his mother were born wild, who knows for sure). He's solid, muscular, bigger than several kinds of pocket dogs, and looks like he could whup a Doberman.

He's the biggest wuss on the block. He has to sneak up on the water dish with extreme caution before he'll even take a drink. Heaven knows what that mean, nasty, vicious water dish ever did to him. If we got one of those dragonfly gizmos, Tybalt would probably hide under the bed for a week.

Not that it isn't tempting, though.

My cat stalks the vacuum cleaner... while it's on. He hasn't launched an attack yet. This is strongly in contrast to his behaviour towards my girlfriend, who he does stalk and attack. Nowadays he just has to look at her with his mouth open and ears back and she will shriek and run from the room. I'm betting he would make short work of the dragonfly. Feel free to send a test unit.

Nice clip (and an awesome cat). I would probably have a cat or two if i wasn't allergic and didn't have two big, kitty-racist doggies. (Don't let your large breed puppy get smacked in the face by a cat - it breeds contempt as the dog gets older and much larger)

I tried something similar with one of my dogs and a remote-controlled car - it ended differently. Let's just say I still haven't found all of the pieces yet (they weren't eaten, they just went flying everywhere). Good thing it was a cheap RC car!

Here's some more geek science - because the red fur gene is recessive in cats and must be passed on by both parents, and because of some other genetic curiosities, 90% of all red cats are males. A female red tabby like Anya is rare.

Now maybe you should pay more respect to her and let her kill that infernal dragonfly. Respect the red kitty!

My greyhound had the opposite reaction. She could have cared less about the dragonfly when I first put it on the coffee table. But as soon as I hit the throttle stick, she jumped on her feet and tried to pounce on it. Thankfully it crashed at my wife's feet and she was able to swoop it up before the dog got it.

This thing is definitely not an indoor flier, though. All you can do is turn it side to side - up/down and forward motion seems to be nothing more than a steep climb followed by a stall. If the dragonfly was high enough when it stalled, it'll recover from the stall and flutter up to an altitude of about 10 feet before repeating the process. I'm sure that if I finessed the throttle a bit more instead of just jamming it to full power for the entire flight I might get a little more controlled flight, but it's been too windy last few days to get any practice in. All in all, though, amongst the best $50 I've spent in a long time.

My cat reacts similarly to my Robosapien. I kind of assumed she'd want to play with it and think it was another animal, but she definitely isn't fooled and is very suspicious of it. Doesn't seem like the way she'd react to something alive either.

only 30 million people (of 300m) in the US make over $75k a year, so i find it a bit hard to believe that 20ish+% of the readership of every gawker media product makes over $100k a year. a few of those people might be fibbing just a bit.

the same kinda thing happened with my cat and a trumpet... i left it in the house and the cat was all over it... a while later i was playing it and she was watching...

It was hilarious to watch her slowly come up to it, hover a paw over it, tap it then run away!
