I am very happy that Apple is not selling this box as a loss leader; I like not having it locked down, not having to hack the thing just to play around with it in "unsupported" ways. If they need to save a few bucks by not including a cable that will only be useful for a subset of customers anyway, so be it.

I would be disappointed if it cost more and came with a regular HDMI cable instead of the HDMI-to-DVI that I need (which I bought separately for $15).

Bottom line: I love my Apple TV already, and having paid attention when I ordered it, had the right cable ready to go before it even arrived.

People need to read before you plop down $300. That's why I'm not getting one. Because I can't afford a fancier TV. I can afford a $300 wireless syncing machine, but not a fancy TV too.

I have a feeling it was one of those things where you don't want to include something in the box if not everybody is going to use it. Personally I wouldn't care.
