I am not a super geek, but have built my own computers. My fiancees computer had windows xp on it, and was taking 7 1/2 miuntes to boot up. My answer? Since every other machine in the house was swapped to Mac, I went ahead ahead wiped the HD and stuck Ubuntu on it.

WOW--Very impressive, and far from geeky. You can fraking run it off a cd, yo. And have you whiners and naysayers seen Beryl? Even Mac fanboys like myself had to pick my chin up off the floor.
