Don't forget that DISPLAY PORT CONTENT PROTECTION! Military grade encrytion for the output for what? To protect against a recorder with display port in that doesn't exist? And resulting in a bunch of blacklisted tvs for nothing? You have to buy a new tv by the way, if yours gets blacklisted. Add the normal HDCP and youv'e got twice the risk.

sameoldthing

I'm an AV mfg., and here's what I know about you consumers. You hate change, but love cheap. In the end, cheap will win! HDMI is a bloody racket - I have to pay $12K per year to be an authorized mfg., plus licensing of up to $5 per unit. Yikes! DP me baby, I can't afford HDMI, and neither can you.

AVMaker

"it's a new roadmap for display connectivity convergence" ...

This resembles those words from an unknown chinese memory manufacturer who says something like "we make the espacially created mammories for you to be utilize in the iphone mp3 nokia razr" ...

Honestly, do we really need another connection? The only positive I can see is the compact size, which could mean that they intend to utilise this format on portable devices (Pocket PCs, UMPCs, etc), but as Ktak said, they're probably fiddly. HDMI is small enough anyway, and does a fine job.

Oh yeah, you guys can play hangman to finish the following:

Get a pair of old-school screws or little clamp thingies on that thing, and things will be better. Also, I think that by small USB plug they mean the size of a micro-vault USB plug or more likely of Mini-A/Mini-B. Anyways, I'm still typing away on an old CRT monitor, and have none of that schmancy fancy HD digital business in my home yet, it's far too expensive for the moment (yes, a couple grand is expensive to me).

citizen.lambda

Settle down Jesus :) the way it was written in TFA doesn't make it clear that the 'optional' part is where you have your beef.

Anyway, Display Port would be cool if HDMI wasn't around, but since DP is royalty free and HDMI isn't there'll still be a market for both.

More than likely it's just another adapter we'll have to carry around "just in case". Like the Multilink adapter I had to buy for my SGI 1600SW because it uses LVDS which SGI assured me was going to become the dominant standard. You know, right before they tanked.
