I am getting VERY tired of hearing people slam the XBOX 360 because of this "imagined" noise problem!

The FACT of the matter is... The 360 is VERY quiet when it is not spinning a disc, and when using Connect360, the disc drive is IDLE!

Even with a disc in the machine, I am not being forced to turn the volume up to hear over the sound of it. It isn't any louder than my old XBOX or other drives I own.

Mac users hate it when Windows bozos make bogus statements about the Mac that anyone that owns one knows is BS.

It would be nice if some of these posters here would get a clue and stop posting the same kind of misinformation about the 360.

If they actually OWNED ONE, (which it is obvious from their clueless comments that they don't) they would know how close to an APPLE TV the 360 with Connect360 is.

I can understand why they would want to believe otherwise though. If I blew 300 bucks for an Apple TV and later found out I could have the same thing for $20.00, I would be pissed too! lol!

goldengoose7

@kdaphoto:

Near the bottom of the site, in the "fine print" area, it says:

iTunes Music Store purchased content is DRM-protected and is not supported.

So, no iTunes DRM. In fact, if the music is protected ACC, it won't even be listed on the 360. Any music in iTunes that is not protected tends to work fine though.

Dunny0, ELE Hopeful

Ok, now I'm confused (not the first time, I generally live that way). The website for Connect360 says:

You can browse and play your iTunes music by song, artist, album, genre or playlist. As you add and remove content to/from your iTunes library, Connect360 keeps your Xbox 360 up to date.

So what's the scoop with DRM. Will it play music from iTunes as long as you didn't buy it from iTunes? Do you want to remove DRM from iTunes music via the 360? What?

kdaphoto

But for those of us who want to listen to all the music we have on iTunes, this does nothing. I really hate the Apple/MS pissing match, only the consumer loses.

Could we just have a Steve/Bill WWF night and get it over with? And why doesn't the music industry just kill DRM, it will help their sales.

And while I'm at it, how about world peace, would someone get on that too?

But I do agree Apple TV, pfft. Same with the Apple phone. I'm waiting for v2.0 for both becase by then Apple wil figure out they should have included full functionality in both.

kdaphoto

Agreed kibets - I use this to stream 360 via MBP. The optical keeps it nice and clean - sounds great on my Polk RTis. Can't wait to try h.264 tonight - streaming WMV HD looked great - but couldn't find a cheap/free Mac WMV compressor. LOVE this utility. Apple TV? pfft.

halcyon100

I am afraid you are mistaken Aubin, the XBOX 360 is completely silent unless you are playing a game which is accessing the DVD drive (at least mine is!)

Streaming is very quiet!

kibets

"But it does make the idea of spending $300 for an AppleTV a little harder to swallow, especially if you already have a 360 and aren't that into iTunes video downloads."

I've heard this argument before, but if you think watching TV or listening to music via the XBOX360 is a usable setup, you might be going deaf.

Maybe when they switch to this mythical 65nm process, it'll help, but as of right now, I'm not inclined to consume media while feeling like I'm strapped to the wing of a plane.

There are many alternatives to the AppleTV, but this isn't one of them.

Aubin
