$399 seems like a pretty low price for their flagship card. Seems like my dad just recently picked up an 8800 GTX for over $500 bucks. It may get "spanked" in benchmarks but it still might end up being a better "deal" for people who don't need the absolute fasted card on the market and still want a DX10 card.

thinkthis

Yes, the card is a lot less expensive than the card it's getting spanked by and it should be.

The important part of this is that before we knew the card got spanked, ATI was saying that it was 25% faster than the 8800 GTX. Now that we know that not to be true, they had better price it cheaper than the GTX or releasing it into the wild would just be silly.

stan_i_am

yeah, reviews are all over the place...Many sights are showing benchmarks where the 2900XT is being on par with, and usually beaten by, an 8800GTS 620MB -- in which case, nVidia wins because the GTS is cheaper. However, I've seen another sight where the 2900 is beating out an overclocked 8800GTX in a few tests. I think both companies are still in the "new driver" stage...so who knows what's what. Although everybody agrees that the 2900 uses tons more power (215 Watts for the 2900XT, vs about 177 Watts for an 8800 GTX and something like 140 for the GTS).

EQC

Funny, what I read didn't show spanking, it showed some issues with first-gen, unoptimized drivers on certain games, and overall smoother results (less roller-coaster framerates) than nVidia. It's way too early to call it spanked. The ATI's also a lot less expensive than the card it supposedly got spanked by.

TurboFool

Insane power draw? Totally spanked by main competitor? Sounds like ATI learned a lot, maybe too much, from their new AMD overlords.

xboxishuge
