That's great rez for a 11.1 screen.
I'll meet you in the Sony Style at U-Village when it comes out so we can drool over it togather. Ah, nevermind, another gadget we won't see for awhile (Japan only for now).

Looks like there are more options for this machine!...
And the screen? 1366 x 768??? This is to celebrate? My crap HP from 05 has a 1920 15.4"

WHY would anyone spend 2k for a green button on a screen you can't work on? Especially when you can put an LED in a ball of ice. That looked cool.

jscseattle

I Agree, Sony Does Rock!
I've had a Vaio VGN-T150 for three years now and it's been great. Now that I've jinxed myself we'll see if I really needed my extended warranty! "Extended warranty?" you ask? Hey, "It's a Sony"!

I've even been able to get 8 hours of constant use running Excel, PhotoShop & PageMaker (yes, I am still a hold out but only because I cannot afford InDesign).
Nothing more out of Eugene? Damn, that was funny! Seriously though, my wife and I have gone through 2 Vaios now, and they have held up well to near constant daily use. Although I think for the money HP gives you more. But THIS laptop looks dreamilicious, fer REAL! And 18 hours of battery life? Holy fer-reakin' crap Batman!! Would this run all the newest games? Ahh, I guess that screen would be too small anyways. TASTY!!

banmojo

@Eugene,

Your Dell (like most laptops from 4 years ago) probably uses SD-RAM or DDR-RAM whereas these newer laptops uses faster DDR2RAM. That is one difference. The other would be FSB, screen technology, newer wireless chipset with better power management, SSD options etc.

JonC

The same chiclet keyboard was already featured on the Sony X505. So comparing this to a none-existent Mac laptop is moot.

The design is very similar to the discontinued X505 that came out in 2004. This is probably its true successor so comparing it with that would probably be more appropriate.

JonC

Eugene, really? So yours can max out to 2GB of RAM? It has an SSD option? How fast is your FSB on that old Dell of yours? It has an ExpressCard slot? Is the 8 hour battery life with an extended battery if so, the Sony one claims 18 hours of battery life. I really doubt your Dell is wrapped in carbon fiber and has an LED backlit screen.

phi

Although they weren't separated with the body of the notebook, the Vaio FE featured the flat key design months before Apple unveiled the MacBook.

Godz, I talked about Apple because this is exactly what everyone has been expecting from them for a long long time now, even down to the design and chiclet keyboard.

So firstly, it's a criticism to Apple, not to Sony (an egoistic one, because I would like to see such a machine from Cupertino).

And secondly, it's specially a criticism to the clueless rumor sites, equally clueless analysts and their fabled MacBook Mini. Everyone keeps speculating about those without any real information whatsoever, because NOBODY outside Apple knows about real new products, no matter how they try to sell this to the public.

Anyway, those are the reasons why I felt Apple needed to be mentioned.

Jesus Diaz
