I have a cheap projector that we use all the time in watching movies in my yard. It's not HD, but we dont' care. We only watch movies the kids can enjoy and listen in stereo even.

I am looking into an FM modulator that will allow me to broadcast at a longer distance. Then I can do a drive in at an old parking lot close to my house.

I really miss the drive-in days.

Yes, as king_of_fools said, the lumenlab group has done this first. That exact enclosure, in fact, is used often as the design for one's first project. I still need to scrape up the money to do mine... Some day...

ya instead use a 15.4" screen and you can get real 720p or if you use a laptop 15.4" you can get 1080p...

also theirs some wicked DIY screens that outperform screengoo and even some of the directdaylight screens... quite amazing.

There's a guy in Pa. that does something similar in/on the sidecar of a motorcycle.

He shows classic films in different locations and you can only get the locations via e-mail.

Originally he was supposed to set up an AM radio beacon and you'd only be able to get the location by listening to THAT.

No no i mean resolutions in a LCD screen could be counted as say 720p while another screen is counted as 720p but has a slightly higher resolution than the other, thats what i meant.

Building the projector itself only cost around 400-500 dollars for high def, though I can see the guy gutted his dvd player LCD screen to use, his is probably only 800x600 or resolution around that, using a lcd thats 15-19 inches will give you truer high def from 720p to beyond 1080p...well not beyond..but real true 1080p, not the minimum 1080p

That's actually kinda cool. My wife and I were planning to do the same thing with our DLP projector when we first got it. We dropped hundreds on Screen Goo "digital grey lite", curtains, 45-feet of S-Video, 45-feet of HDMI, and finally got our home theatre the way we'd like.

We never did drop a bedsheet over the back fence and watch movies in the backyard. I still would like to play Warhawk or watch Blu-Ray out back... remember to bring the bug spray and light the citronella candles.
