Works very well on my LG CU500. Doesn't work on my unlocked, straight from SE, W810i. Tried both with an AT&T SIM. The W810i provides no error. It loads the media player and says that it's connected, but nothing plays. I've waited 5 minutes.

Additionally, I think that the time that it takes to buffer is throttled and therefore is not fully taking advantage of the 3Gness of my LG. I say this because the buffer time is about the same on my cable modem using Safari and QT.

jhopgen

Works perfectly on my LG CU-500 with the built in Cingular MediaNet Browser. Pretty cool actually, loads in just seconds.

I am on AT&T / Cingular - Unlimited Data and all bars there on the 3G antenna.

One strange note is that I cannot get a video to play using the Opera Mini Browser, I just hit the "play video" link (repeatedly) and nothing ever happens, even if I hit it once and give it a while...nothing. I guess Opera Mini can't access the phones media player, I dunno. Still it works and looks good on the CU 500 through MediaNet.

FlashGordon

I tried this out on my AT&T Motorola V3xx (HSDPA). Buffering literally took just around a second. Quality was excellent. Also tried it when in an EDGE-only area of my house, and it was passable, but the buffering took FOREVER.

I wouldn't mess with this without 3G, personally... but with 3G - it rocks.

asten77

BTW, just for the hell of this I tried loading this on my Mac in FireFox, and I was surprised that I wasn't redirected to the full YouTube web page (most mobile pages I've seen bump full computer browsers to the full page). Interestingly enough, it decided to load RealPlayer instead of QuickTime or VLC. QuickTime didn't seem to like the video and sat forever at the streaming screen, but VLC did the deed with no problem at all. Interesting? Maybe not. Informational? You bet!

Kichigai Mentat

Photophile: Of course there's a reason: All the Gizmodo video features, duh! ;) That aside, I tend to agree: there's not much worth looking at on YouTube, and I tend to spend no time there (except when looking for Will It Blend videos). I actually tend to spend more time on Google Video, because you can actually find full length public domain videos there. I'm personally waiting until Google Video and YouTube finally merge (or at least until Google Video results come up in YouTube, like YouTube results come up in Google Video)

Kichigai Mentat

Why YouTube? I don't get why somebody would want to watch the completely random videos from that site on their mobile device with a dedicated service. Going there randomly from a browser is alright, but what redeeming quality does YouTube have, other than stupid clips of people hurting themselves? I want to know. (video diaries/blogs do not count, they are lame)

photophile

No go on my Treo 680 on Cingular/AT&T. I think it's EDGE, definitely not 3G. I get to the mobile Youtube site, can search for videos (you're right, not even close to the whole site content, and no real pattern to what's there), and select a video to play. Then, the embedded Kimona player takes over and starts to buffer. Never gets past 0%, though, and eventually bombs out. Oh well, that's what I get for not being 3G I guess.

AZTriGuy

well damn. got my hopes up & everything. loaded it up on the Dash, clicked through the warning (of course I have unlimited data! not having that would suck!), browsed through three pages before finding something that looked, oh i dunno, marginally interesting, which mobile IE felt should be launched in winders media, which declined to recognize the file type. isn't that type of file the normal mobile phone video file type? that theoretically would play in the camera app? if WM6 could be configured in some way to do that? meh. oh well.
