Turbo Pascal gave me my first "real" programming experience after writing primitive games in Atari Basic. Borland gave us Quattro, a usable version of Paradox, affordable C and C++ IDEs, and Delphi which I still use at work today.

The camera phone? Who needs one?

That's what people remember Philippe for? What about Borland? Turbo Pascal? Okay, yea, I'm dating myself. I was a Turbo Pascal fanatic. And I used it to write tons of software while at Ashton-Tate - the company that Borland eventually bought.

So glad to see that the legacy of Philippe is continuing. Philippe, if you're reading this - I enjoyed our C compiler conversation at one of the Programming Conventions. It was you, the project manager for the Microsoft C product, and myself. The media got wind of Ashton-Tate, Microsoft, and Borland all discussing the attributes of good C compilers. When they showed up, we all split.
