You guys obviously haven'd had AT&T or Cingular prior to owning an iPhone. They have done this forever. If you are a big texter or Data user, they itemize EVERY message and every kb of data sent. If you dont like the big bills, login to your account and select "paperless billing". You'll get your statement in an email rather than an itemized report on all your usage... This is the millionth article i've seen about this. Get over it and learn how to administer your account. :-)

I suspect that providing all this detail suppresses the call-in rate from customers - with all that information, who's going to bother reviewing it? But it gives the impression that ATT is carefully managing messaging details, so people probably think , "Hmm, I guess this looks OK". If all they get is a "Please pay this amount" notice, there'd be lots more questions. It's much more expensive to answer a phone call from a customer than to send a bill, even a many paged bill.
In other words, I just assume they are doing this intentionally - one of their many ways of saying "screw you" to their customers.

I might be a little harsh but, she looks like the kind of person I'd love to hate. I wouldn't want an iPhone anaways or even an American rate plan. I myself use a low-end LG phone from Telus. 10 Canadian dollars a month for unlimited calling when I need it (between 3 and 7) and unlimited text, data and various other things for another 15. 25 canadian dollars a month with no access fee as it's prepaid but, still uses my Mastercard for monthly withdrawls.

All phone service providers seem to think it's necessary to give you sufficient back up that you will not question the bill, as that sucks up time and money from their company via the customer service department. The dopes.

So they include phone numbers, date and time of the activity (text, data or calls), duration of the activity, and perhaps a brief description of the activity. So if you send a few hundred messages, make a few hundred phone calls, and perform a use a few hundred data services each month (you know, the normal stuff), you are going to get a very large statement.

The logical thing to do seems to be go with electronic statements to avoid all the paper waste. But consumers for the most part really like that paper. Do you hear that? That's the sound of trees screaming.

It sounds kinda dumb (what would you expect from AT&T), but what if this is AT&T's way of getting people to switch to paperless billing? They just annoy their customers by sending them ungodly amounts of paper in the mail every month until they switch... Sounds dumb, but I know I just made the change...

So, AT&T don't hug trees I see. How much could they save a year by not doing that and not pass it along to the customer? Main bill elements only and the rest just goes on your iPhone to read? And, you know you're paying for that paper somewhere in that statement as well as the shipping fee - look hard enough and I'l bet you'll find it itemized on page 257.

I bet half her bill is just subsidizing the Color laser printer that they used to print her bill out (wow how recursive). Seriously, the paper might as well be free but the printing and mailing costs are astronomical. Those things cost about 10 cents a page, single sided. Just to print the bill alone was $30. Mailing it probably cost another $10.

Uhhh, this might actually be interesting if we knew what was on the phone bill. But yeah, like people already said, she looks like a talker/text-er/custom ring tones kinda gal. Plus it sure it shows all the time you spent surfing the net and showing her friends that funny YouTube video.

@aquaosx: Yup, B got it. Now that a month is up, people with the iPhone unlimited data plans are getting bills ranging from 70 pages all the way up to this, detailing every single data transfer. The worst of it is AT&T doesn't even tell you what you transferred, just "data."

Let's hope this hottie recycles.

I can't watch the video at work, but i just counted, and they fit 54 calls per page. add 6 pages of usage summary per account, which means, assuming she has an account with just one phone:

300 - 6 = 294 or so pages of usage:
294 * 54 = 15,876 usages.

that's a lot of data usage... i use 2GB/month (at least) w/ my SE w810i, and my bill is about 40pgs long. i have 1500 data sessions.

I know I'm being very stereo-typical, but I'm sure other people we're also thinking this. Doesn't she come off as the sort of person that talks to her girlfriends until her arm gets sore, and then messages them until her thumbs get sore? I could be very wrong...that just how it came off to me.

@aquaosx: It is the norm, actually. AT&T gives you a kilobyte by kilobyte breakdown of every data transfer, even if you have an unlimited data plan, like nearly everybody who has and iPhone does.
