Robotic mowers have been available for several years.

I have a Friendly Robotics Robomower, which has been a great mower. If I hadn't gotten a excellent price on mine I would have considered the Lawnbott, which is also a highly regarded robotic lawnmower.

The only challenges I have with mine are if it rains before or during it's mow cycle I have to turn Junior (my mowers name) over and clean out all the grass that built up and also have to check on it a few times while mowing to keep neighborhood kids from doing stupid things like throwing rocks in front of it.

Lawn robots (in general):

Use very little electricity (~7-10$ / year) while emitting no pollution.

They do this while cutting your lawn more often, creating far smaller clippings which in turn compost faster, so your lawn requires less fertilizer.

They all have good safety systems which automatically shut off in the event of someone picking them up, they sit very low to the ground so you are far less likely to get something underneath one than you are a regular lawnmower. The blades are smaller, lighter and therefore have less mass so when they do hit something hard (foot, dog, rusty nail) they do far less damage and are far less likely to send the thing flying.

They all automatically shut off when moved beyond the perimeter of their fences.

Hopefully free you up to do real exercise, unless of course you really get your heart pumping while pushing around your gas guzzling, polluting, self propelled machete. But then of course you probably consider pushing a shopping cart full of pringles exercise as well.

This isn't about lazy people, its about freeing you up to do something useful, be a little more positive people!

Before anyone gets too excited about this product, watch the demonstration on the product website. They have officailly created the first artificial intelligence with an extra chromosome. It doesn't mow your yard, it wanders around like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there. If this product has a comma in it's price, then it better be a prop in the "B" horror flick. Starring Paris Hilton and Bob Saget.

Aah, I can see it now.. The lawn truck pulls up to mow my lawn full of workers and one little guy gets out and lets a couple of those bad boys loose on my lawn and then they all sit back and have a cold one in the shade.
