They are not that obtrusive; they stay the the bottom for a while and you can even dismiss them. I would not mind if YouTube uses the same approach.

I heard about YouTube trying to insert ads or do several different stuff to increase their incomes or something.

And I think they'll eventually do something. And it's probably not gonna be the end of YouTube, but it will for me at least. I can't be bothered not even with 5 seconds ad, and I pretty much use YouTube because it has no ads.

The only date I could find is 4/23/2007. I think Google announced that it wasn't going to use the pre-rolls more recently than 4/27. Even if they are using pre-rolls, I'm sure Google isn't going to put 30 second spots in front of 15 second videos or even 1 minute videos. That would be retarded and they know that. More likely, this is only for high-value content for clips that are much longer in length than just a few minutes.

Like was said before, waiting through a 30 second commercial for a 15 second clip is absurd. Waiting through the same commercial for an hour long clip is something else entirely.

While no one will be thrilled, it could still work as long as they apply common sense. Then again, this could also be a sign of them throwing in the towel and milking every penny they can out of it until the unveil "the next big thing".
