I work in the motion picture business as a camera operator and I love this camera for carrying around the set in my pocket to be pulled out whenever I want to document the cast and crew doing something interesting. That's what it's for (plus backpacking, concerts, etc). It's ideal for documenting your life as it passes by and in high quality at that! If you want spectacular, high end shooting results, go purchase one of the 35 to 150k cameras that we use in the industry. That's not what this camera is for. "Shaky Cam"? Get a tripod, if you are a serious shooter... we do.

exactly what we need.... the HD home movie experience: now you can enjoy the shaking camera and annoying zoom affects that you remember from your the old days... only now you can store the video on hard drives with a longer shelf life so that it will still be around to show your great grandkids how their grandfather refused to be potty trained.

Sorry, but since I bought my Xacti, I haven't touched my Sony DCR-PC100 tape camcorder. They're more than enough to post video to websites or burn dvds for friends. Do not miss having to deal with warm-up delays and tapes choking and breakdowns. Unless you really want to see the acne on your kids face, HD is probably overkill.

@flyboy: not stupid, just misled. both 1280x720 and 1920x1080 are specified as High Definition video. HD television is either 720p or 1080i, and (I think) most HD OTA channels are broadcast in 720p.

The quality is usually not good from these cameras and once site went further to say the previous model was NOT HD. But the size is sweet indeed.
