I have Verizon and they have a backup assistant you can get on your phone for 1.99 a month, but if you are a registered user for their online site (who wouldn't be) then they waive the 1.99 fee. It works by backing all your contacts up to a database and then if your phone gets lost/stolen, when you get the new phone, simply enter the name and password and it syncs you new phone with all your contacts. It only backs up your contacts, but free was always the best price to me.

If you have Verizon you can download a free program from Get-it-now that backs up your contacts to their servers. You can retrieve them anytime, like when your handset gets soaked or broken and you get a new one. Very useful since there's no SIM card to save the contacts to.

hmm, I use Mobile phone tools, $20, does the same thing to my computer. I can see where this might be handy if you say, snag someones phone at the bar and download everything, Jack Baurer style.
