they look like official cardboard mockups to me. i'm sure the new zune will look like this, but these are cardboard.

the "screen" on the hard drive one is clearly a peice of paper stuck on top. it's off center and the bottom edge is curling up a bit.

FM is good for a lot of people who use these at the gym, as the TVs usually broadcast over an unused FM channel. I look for it--it's the main reason why I didn't buy an iPod when my last one bricked).

@odnet: Yep, over a million, and only when it was advertised and available in the US market.

The Zune hasn't even spread its wings yet (i.e. Available world-wide), and its already pulling in pretty decent numbers considering it hasn't been a year. Thats not bad for a HARD DRIVE based player.

While its not the leader of HARD DRIVE based players, its still pretty decent for a HARD DRIVE based device that apparently is a pile of shit, given what i have read.

@leemajors: Can't say I would use an Am tuner but I can see where your coming from, much better choice of talk radio stations.

@deadlizard: The current Zunes (and Zune 2's) aren't really aimed at the same market that's interested in a touch. I don't really see M$ bothering with the higher end (price wise) section of the market right now. All the Apple fanbots love to put the Touch toe-to-toe with the Zune, but it's not really a fair comparison because they aren't really going for the same market. The only feature they really share is wifi (other than video and music, but if that's your justification whatever). But of course it is the only ipod that is arguably better than even the first gen Zune.

I agree with LEEMAJORS... I have my favorite music on my PMP player, I'd rather have access to some AM talk radio. I guess that makes me old.

Most FM just plays POP music (the same 10 songs over and over), but that could be a regional problem.

I, personally, applaud the Zune's design. As much as everyone craps all over its clunkiness (it IS a brick, I'll admit that), I personally welcome the size. I'm a pretty big dude with big hands, and the thinness of the new iPods genuinely freaks me out. I'm sure they're sturdy, but I can't get past incredibly thin handheld devices. I avoided purchasing the RAZR for the same reason. I want something big that feels substantial to me.

I still stick to my guns that if any company besides MS had released this, people wouldn't be nearly so grouchy about the whole affair. It's a PMP for chrissakes! Why people get so heated over it I'll never understand. Just because the iPod sells better than the Zune (kind of an unfair comparison, given Apple's 6-year headstart) doesn't mean that the iPod is the be-all and end-all solution for everyone. I like the Zune, and don't like the iPod. That doesn't make me an idiot, or an MS fanboy. It just means that I have an opinion. Deal with it.

@Kaiser-Machead: Why does everyone hate on the Zunes FM tuner, oh right, since Apples refuses to put one in, it must have no value to anyone that matters. Access to instant music and talk radio has no value to anyone whatsoever. Sure I don't use the FM tuner in my Zune other than for 1 particular morning show, but at least it's an option. But I guess less is more, right?

@Cursemaster0: The thing that gets me is the touch supports 640x480 video which is great, but you have so little storage space. I mean how much space does a 2 hour movie take up at that res? I have over 10GB of music on my Zune, that would leave me less than 6GB for vids on the touch. If Apple can up the storage and lower the price $100, it garner more than a sideways glace from me. Hell, they could drop the internet and wifi for all I care.

@utube2007: Amen. All the fanbots love to compare the 1st gen Zune to the overpriced touch, and they gloss over the fact that the touch still has less memory at twice the price. Heck the screen is only a 1/2" bigger too. But too be fair, I bet the touches 480-by-320-pixel resolution looks pretty sweet, I wouldn't know, I don't know anyone that owns one.

Waiting for the day when I can have an mp3 player with decent storage, and Sirius on board. Not sure of the size of storage on the Stiletto, but I do remember saying "meh" at the time.

I currently have a 2GB nano, a 5g Zen Micro, and a 20 Gig Zen Sleek. Bought the Zens because they have a built in Mic, which is useful to me as a podcaster. As far as ease of use, Nano wins hands down. I love it.

Not touching Zunes. The old ones remind me of an old PDA, and these new ones just dont do it for me either. Form factor is ass, and I just dont care that much about "squirting" songs about.

I have tried a Zune. There are certain things I liked. There were things I didn't. To use it for an "extended period of time" would require buying one. I didn't see the value. I used to have an iPod 5th Gen. I no longer do. Perhaps this release will be better for the Zune, however, it just appears to occupy the space that the iPod just left. Whatever. It's all just circuit boards and nerds anyway. It just doesn't seem that MSFT really gives a sh*t. They just have to have something on the market. My 2¢

I like how XXENCLAVEXX calls it an IPOD, and how he considers the Zune to be better because it has a better frequency response than the iPod (as I've said many times before, frequency response has very little to do with overall sound quality). He's probably using the stock headphones, thinking that he gets better sound quality than iPod users who've bought a proper set of headphones.

didn't they say october 16th? on here at least? well im likely gunna get the insignia pilot to replace my zen v because of battery life, removable battery, storage(and GOOD expandability unlike the new zen) tv out and bluetooth is nice to have. these are nice too but i feel that it might have the same hardware issues, the battery and i want to see the pricing for it.
