First, the new zunes look pretty cool. For all you ipod and zune fans alike(mostly apple), the new ipods are pretty cool too but be more openminded. In order to try to beat the ipod, copmanies will have to raise their standards and add more useful features, and will sometimes surpass the ipod(like zune perhaps). So be more openminded(but not bashing apple cause I like ipods). Anyways, archos has had wi-fi browser on their touchscreen pmp for a while(long before iphone) so don't assume that everyone's copying apple.

You can always have a laugh on how Apple fanboys rush to Zune news to bash the product with shitty comments on how Microsoft released the product later, how it will fail on battery times, how the design is a copy, how the Zune has "minor upgrades on spec comparing to iPods" and stuff like that or even worse: On how future price drops or a next version will make the iPod better. OH WOW.

That's the problem with media players right now. So many fanboys nowadays that some products will stay on the market even if they are more expensive and have less resources than the competition. Not talking about Apple here though, just in general.

Just get over it. If you don't like it, stay the f out of these articles, go shove your iPods you know where. iPods are great too, but some owners just can't avoid whinning on every new pmp release, specially if it's from Microsoft.

Back to Zune... looking great. Far better than the first one at least. But already having a decent mp3 player (my cellphone) and an Archos, there's no point in getting one of those. Nice choice for people who were thinking of buying a pmp though. Pay no attention to fanboys, just test the pmps and get the one you like the most.

But that implies they are, which they are not. They feature set of the flash zunes buries the nanos at the same price and storage. Same is true of the classic to 80GB zune (for all we know a 160 is on the way, and it's not like that 80GB is free on the classic either). M$ has not put out a product to compete with the Touch and the 16GB touch is $150 more than the most expensive zune. That's really the only ammo you have though, isn't it? Comparing 2 product that are quite obviously aimed at two different segments of the market. What's next, comparing a Honda Civic to a Dodge Viper?

The 80GB Zune actually sounds appealing, which is a far cry from my feelings on the original Zune. Wireless syncing would be the sweet, and the screen would nice for watching videos. Almost makes me wish I didn't buy my iPod Classic, with its laggy buggy interface... but great podcast support. I wonder how good that is on these new zunes, as that is what I listen to the most.

Nice to see Apple get some solid competition finally. If they came out with this originally years ago, I think they might've had a much bigger impact on the market. But as it is, it feels like they're still playing catch up with Apple.

And if you look at the hands on pics at Wired next to the iPhone, the Zune looks downright low rent. I like the menu and font though. And better color choices than the current iPods too.

Overall not bad.

I don't think there's anything stopping you from loading a Zune or iPod Classic or whatever with just music. I don't think there's really any added cost there above what would be needed anyway to have it be an acceptable music player with a proper interface. Maybe on the Touch, but the Classic and Nano and Zunes (minus wireless transmitter) are all pretty streamlined if needed.

There's also the iPod shuffle for the ultimate in musical purity.

It still bothers me that the companies keep cramming all this stuff on these things. It seems nobody makes one with a decent amount of storage that just plays music.
I have no need to attempt to watch a movie on a 3.5" screen. Why the hell would I keep pictures on it? That just seems silly - screen's too small to really enjoy them. What ever happened to the days of plugging it in to your PC for a few minutes and copying over a few MP3's and being done with it?

The new small Zunes look nice, but why pay for a bunch of bells and whistles I'd never use?

Props to Microsoft with the big screen AND big hardrive. And about the not having 160gigs... who the hell needs to have 160gigs of shit with them at all times? I have about 11 movies already on my gen1 Zune, and it (with 10 gigs of music, you guys can do the math) only is using about 17gigs.

Wirelessly syncing is great, and if the refresh times are cut too, my Zune will be rockin' still. I'll admit though, I have yet to squirt or be squirted. I think the release of thesed new toys will begin to change that.

I don't get all the "serious improvement" and "better than an iPod" talk.

When you look at the big picture, Zunes are just iPods in different clothing. Same concept, roughly the same price, roughly the same features.

Personally I think the Zune 80 outclasses the iPod Classic 80. The rest of the iPod line still dominates, however. 160 GB or MobileSafari or Wireless music store or larger screen all trounce wireless syncing.

I'm extremely happy with this news. I can't wait for the firmware update for my Zune to get the wifi syncing and video codecs. I hope they throw a Unicode font in there too so I can read my Japanese song titles.

the screens of the zunes say 'podcast'...i know that term is now in the websters dictionary...but is it coined by Apple? it does have 'POD' in it...

i'm feelin Zcasts....or is that too close to Verizons Vcast?
