Anyways, its not a cat and mouse, game its called patience... only idiots that went and upgraded to 1.1.1 after unlocking their phone had issues...

Common sense in the hacker/cracker community is don't apply firmware/software upgrades from the factory until the crack/hack has been CONFIRMED to work, or a new hack/crack is released that will work with the new verisons.

If people would stand by that mentatility we wouldn't have any bricked iphones and the dev team could work in peace to finish the next jailbrake, wow ya how depressing we'd have to wait for our wireless store and minimal other features an extra month, but atleast we'd have the new crack and new softwares instead of dead bricks...

Start being patient, dont upgrade until the new cracks are out its as simple as that.

Also why is settling for what apple gives good enough? They don't even give us an IM client, hell i'm gonna jailbrake my 1.1.1 for apolloim alone, ya theirs other cool stuff but that's my #1 app to install.

Actually, Sony did try to brick PSPs with the TA-082+ version of the PSP's motherboard.

It's just that bricking a phone angers people a lot more than a video game console. Plus, it's MUCH more expensive. Not only that, the iPhone isn't "hardware" bricked, but software locked. Huge difference there.

Why? Because it's MY phone. I purchased it. I OWN it. It's MY property and as such, I have the right to do with it as I please. I'm not talking about unlocking the phone (I have no reason to do that), but I AM talking about being able to install 3rd-party apps. I've grown very reliant on ToDoList and VoiceNotes (two apps that the phone SHOULD have come with in the first place), and if upgrading the phone's firmware means I'll lose that ability to run 3rd-party apps, then I WON'T upgrade the phone's firmware. For me, it's just that simple. Sure, I'd love to have the iTunes WiFI store on my phone, but not at the expense of 3rd-party apps. So the "Cat & Mouse" game can continue; I don't care. I'll just always be a firmware version or two behind.

I'm fine with waiting longer than usual before I update my iPhone if it means that I can be on T-Mobile instead of AT&T and keep an IM client and other neat software installed.

The main reason to update to 1.1.1 seems to be to add a new way to buy more stuff from Apple, so I'm not in a big hurry, anyway. The bugfixes and little refinements will be nice, but I can live without those for a little longer, too.

Those of us that choose to leave it pristine aren't all necessarily technical n00bs. I look at modded iPhones like modded Civics. The original design works just fine for me. It really doesn't need the 4' fiberglass wing and the led windshield wiper nozzles.

Why would anyone bother? Apple has made it clear that they will not allow this sort of software to work after they update the software, so why bother playing a cat and mouse game like this? At least with PSP owners they could take comfort in the fact that their device would not be 'bricked' when updating the software. With the iPhone, it seems Apple is almost pleased to make your device a pretty paperweight -- so, why would you egg them on? Is this some sort of hacker version of the game Chicken?

I just do not get it, folks.
