Also, if being offended by something as obscene as tubgirl qualifies someone (in your eyes) as being "puritanical" - a word with a pretty extreme connotation, then I shudder to think what would qualify as "normal" in your mind. I think you would be surprised at how "puritanical" the response of the average human being (worldwide) would be if you showed them tubgirl and asked them what they thought about it. If this is truly your sense of normalcy as defined by you and your colleagues' beliefs then you need to see a shrink. I hate to break it to you, but you are in the tails of the bell-shaped curve on this one, not in the middle as you assume.

As for your "question", I'm offended by racism and xenophobia so if they posted something of that nature yes I'll be very much offended. I just find it funny that gaming nerds in their 30's are reacted with such indignation, like they're conservative boomers. I'm also pretty sure that if they'd just post something violent or bloddy (seemed appropriate for a Halo grudge match), the reaction won't be nearly as bad.

Personally, however, I don't buy this at all. I think this whole thing is a cooked up event by gawker to drive some Kotaku traffic to Gizmodo. I think both sides are in on it and they're all laughing about how successful this "controversy" is. The apology sounded like something for the advertisers. If that's the case, then I guess you guys did a good job.

As much as I love reading Giz and Kotaku, I found this to be a little bit too much. I'm fine with all the Fleshbot and other NSFW posts (and all the hentai game posts on Kotaku), but as a female reader I can tell you this is not funny at all. I'm not offended, but I just found that image very disturbing. I'd rather you post those Master Chief porn instead. Take a look at the survey you just posted and see who's reading your site, and if you don't care about your readers, at least think about your sponsors.

Anyone realize how puritanical and small-minded it is to be offended by a photo? It was a pretty funny joke, although the point is kind of valid about children & people at work. you obviously don't have a job. There are people that work in an office where professionalism is highly regarded. Seeing that image on our computer, either by a boss or to an more extreme extent "monitored" could cost them their job, just by simply viewing a SFW webpage. Some people also have kids and don't want their kids seeing something like that. I for one wouldn't be too offended by it, but you need to be able to respect the fact that some people have restrictions in their home and work environment for things like that.

I still think you're a bit of a jackass, but you also manned up enough to apologize. I may not like you, but you said what needed to be said.

It's cool between us, and no matter if you keep reading Giz or not, you should definitely keep reading Kotaku.

And this line here is why I can respect this whole apology, and find myself willing to stick around. This place is good when it's actually about the gadgets, so here's hoping nothing gets in the way of that again in the future.
