I like the idea, any way to get xvid/divx videos to a tv without having to convert it sounds awesome...I just hope they can up the video quality.

I was pretty excited about this product... whilst I never worry about formats, file types and what not using xbmc at home... taking shows over to a mates house is an exercise in frustration.. luddites the lot of them! bah.. being able to just pop some vid onto a flash drive and plug into a tv sounds like a nice simple solution to those ANTM marathons! ahem.

i would totally buy this. right now, i download shows from torrents. then i have to convert the AVI to WMV to play on my box to the TV. this would eliminate the middle man. i think its a great idea.

Displays do look very nice but walking flash drive between PC and TV is so last decade. I would be much more interested if this downloaded over WiFi. I guess using PC to control web interface and then WiFi download to the STB would be the cheaper. But What people would want is a box that can connect directly to the website and download shows wouldn't even require a PC and this would be more secure for the video. S-video is pretty lame we need upscaling to 720p/1080i/1080p via HDMI. This would make it very similar to the Divx connected device that doesn't have a download source other than Stage6 (YouTube clone, mostly music videos and stupid stunts). If I could connect to a movie/TV episode site, and download to a minimalist STB this would be ideal. STB with 4/8/12 GB of $150-200 plus $30/month unlimited downloads I'd be all over this.

Agreed.
The hardware side isn't cool enough to carry it past the software side for which there are alternatives already available.

A small USB Hard drive with the divx files and VLC portable and you're nearly there.
Even a wimpy laptop can play those files, and scan converters are easy to find.

meh. no interest in this at all. i can either stream divx to my 360 from the media center pc, dump it to a regular flash drive, or burn it to cd or dvd-rw and play it on the the philips divx capable dvd player or the laptop or wherever. i don't get the market for this either.

Sorry, but how can this compete with iTunes, XBL Marketplace, Cable PPV, Bittorrent, etc?
Sansa, I admire your chutzpah, but please concentrate on making your PMPs better. People will bring their own content.

I don't really see the market they are going for with this. Most techy people would just build a MMPC and accomplish a much higher level of functionality. Is the fanfare service the draw?
