I've now lost data to this Seagate firmware 7.01 issue not once, but
twice in the last six months. How is this not being handled
differently by Seagate? How is there no consumer revolt, no class
action lawsuit? Why do I need to pay as much as $2,700 to try to
recover some of my data?

Why is this not getting more coverage?

Jason.

Seagates actually have a better hard drive than Western Digital. Western Digitals are known to have manufacture defects on most of their hard drives (their read and write heads crash because the acutator arm can get unalligned real easily; also the seal on the actual hard drive on Western Digitals was known to have a defect in it a couple years back, they never fessed up to it "officially" but if you called the manufacturer and bitched about it they would exchange it out fo ryou. As for this instance I seriously think that it would probably be on Apple's end(whether from the heat or not) not on Seagate's end.

DataRecoveryGuru

My macbook hard drive failed 3 days ago, model seagate fw 7.01 60gb. Ive owned the computer for 1 year and 2 weeks, so the apple warranty has run out. But Maine has a really cool implied warranty act I may be able to use, which states all products must last for a reasonable amount of time based on the products expected life. I replaced it today with a western digital 120gb. Im going to contact apple soon.

tribedescribe

weird. i'm replacing a Seagate Momentus right this moment. from a Powerbook though. and not a SATA drive.

normally when Deathstars died... (and i have a stack of 15-20 to know they do) i could at least recover 99.8% of the important data. on this Seagate today... NOTHING. like to all machines concerned i am merely plugging in an empty USB cable. nice.

even better? it died *during* a recycle back up. meaning it's gone gone gone. got 45% of the data recovered... and it is all like Applications i could easily reinstall. User folders are hosed.

in addition... my MacBook had its original stock drive die within like 6 months. i couldn't wait for Apple to mail/return it so i just bought a new drive. almost positive it was a Seagate though.

x23
