Add up what she was able to upload and divide it amongst how many times the average song goes in to it and blammo you have how many songs she "shared" Sheesh if you wanted to get technical you could only bill her for completed uploads.

What she has done here is petty theft. If she is really going to pay that big a bill then the other people who recieved those songs should have some sort of protection. Because if they aren't going to divvy the penalty amongst the sharers they should then be exempt from prosecution.

What I think really needs to happen is the government needs to step in and say filesharing is bad and put a fine on shared songs.

$20 per song. $50 per song. $100 per song. Something... not this quarter of a million fuckin dollars. You could buy a house for that and frankly, it's just not worth that much.

There's more to it. She shared those songs, and each person she shared with also rang up $1 against her. She should be charged for every instance of sharing that robbed the RIAA of their $1.
What do you suppose the likelyhood is of her sharing those songs 222,976 times is?

come on dude, you have a sorry attitude. If you've got a point to make, by all means do so. I learn new things every day. But lose the attitude, it does no good.
Why don't you move to Memphis? It would sure help fix your your ideas concerning the justice system. Bad guys walk every day, and minor offenders get absolutely raped by the courts.
I don't oppose the guilty ruling any more than I oppose a speeding ticket. But I would be quite pissed off if I heard that someone went 20 miles per hour over and got a $20,000 dollar ticket.

Copywrite violation and piracy are not a-okay. The penatly was pretty extreme, but i'm starting to get beyond the point of caring anymore. People aren't getting the message that piracy is not acceptable and it is not a victimless crime. There are consequences for your actions. Accept it.
That said, this is an interesting way of covering the bill, and i'm interested to see how far it goes.
By buying her products, you are supporting the RIAA though. (Remember who that money's going to.) If you REALLY want to support your happy "music for everbody" "but we're only sharing" copywrite violation pro-piracy cause, you'd want her to ruin her life and file bankruptsy, or perhaps die before the RIAA can get their greedy greedy hands on the money.
