@bhp9mm: Alright, you did get me to smile. This is how I see it:

1) How else is he going to speak all over the world? Walk? Swim? Teleport? Besides, the impact he is having makes up for it all...even if he was using 1,000 diesel powered trucks, planes and trains to get around.

2) You can't compare Ice Ages to the current Global Climate Change because none of those involved man made CO2 levels. That is scientific fact, "pussycat".

3) About this: "All the while not revealing to the general public that he was CEO of one of the largest cable companies." Do you have proof of Al Gore hiding something? Do share.

4) About this: "Rupert Murdoch analogy makes no sense at all to this discussion" Not true. I used it as a example of someone participating in the good or services offered by their own company. The point being, what is wrong with doing so? You are right though (no pun intended): I hate Faux News because they are exactly the opposite of "Fair and Balanced". Btw, I'm no fan of the NYTimes either. Most American media is a joke to me.

5) About: "fly private jets, build enormous mansions and make up some phony carbon credit scheme." I might be wrong, but wouldn't a small private jet burn less than a huge commercial plane?

6) Gore's family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100% green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology: Hardly anything hypocritical about that. Plus, both he and his wife work out of the mansion which also pushes up electricity use there + no commuting.

7) Regarding the car he was pulled over in, I have no idea what make/model it was. I also can't find any picture or proof of what you said...though if you have a link, do share. I imagine he was going 77 in a 55 to outrun those glaciers you talked about.

"My problem is with hypocrites."

Me too!

"Agree with her or not, I respect her, and her commitment."

I agree.

"There you go sunshine. I hope I explained it in small enough words that you can understand. I await with eagerly for your next copy and paste from wikipedia."

I hope I don't dissapoint you with the lack of Wiki pasting. Regardless of agreeing or not with Al Gore, I am constantly amazed at people trying to denigrate a person who works to point out problems with the environment. I also highly doubt anyone would miss oil if other, cleaner sources for energy were utilized. It's not a load of crap either...do you know how much energy reaches the surface of our planet from the sun in one day? I'd paste it here, but no wiki for you!

johnnyabnormal

@johnnyabnormal: Listen pussycat, smile a bit.

You are too tense. I owned up and apologized for the misquote. I never stated that I hated Al Gore, that's the typical rhetoric of Al Gore lovers. I also never claimed that global climate change was a hoax. Of coarse there is global climate change. This planet has gone through 4 major ice ages, and yet there are no glaciers currently in NYC, and we are not skiing down them. Ignorance is bliss, huh? By my logic the CEO of Comcast(Brian Roberts) is not a fake. By my logic the Brian Roberts would be a fake if he made a documentary about how the world would end because we were all receiving television signals over-the-air, and preaching that we should all get cable. All the while not revealing to the general public that he was CEO of one of the largest cable companies. The Rupert Murdoch analogy makes no sense at all to this discussion, aside from allowing for some seething anti-Fox commentary. Like saying Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. (publisher of the New York Times) couldn't read his fake news paper, sure it a barb, but it really doesn't belong as a logical argument.

My problem is with hypocrites. If Al wants to preach man made global climate change, that's fine. But you don't do that and fly private jets, build enormous mansions and make up some phony carbon credit scheme. You also don't rent 4 door V-8 Lincoln sedans, then speed 75 in a 55 (a speed limit that was designed for fuel efficiency) and get caught by state troopers in Oregon. That sort of thing gives me very little respect for you, whether I agree with you or not. As an example I would site Daryll Hannah, she pushes the green line, she has the resources to do the things that Al does, but she lives off the grid, generates her own power, and tries to fly as little as possible, or at least fly commercial airlines. Agree with her or not, I respect her, and her commitment.

There you go sunshine. I hope I explained it in small enough words that you can understand. I await with eagerly for your next copy and paste from wikipedia.

Bhp9mm

If you want to take it out of context, sure. Anything can sound bad out of context. The fatal flaw in your snarky response is that "invented the internet" and "took initiative in creating" are very different in meaning. You could crack open a dictionary, or maybe read this:

Al Gore was involved in the development and mainstreaming of the Internet as both Senator and Vice-President. Campbell-Kelly and Aspray note in Chapter 12 of their 1996 text, Computer: A History of the Information Machine, that up until the early 1990s public usage of the Internet was limited. They continue to state that the "problem of giving ordinary Americans network access had exercised Senator Al Gore since the late 1970s" leading him to develop legislation which would alleviate this problem.[7] Gore thus began to craft the High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991 (commonly referred to as "The Gore Bill")[8] after hearing the 1988 report Toward a National Research Network[9] submitted to Congress by a group chaired by UCLA professor of computer science, Leonard Kleinrock, one of the central creators of the ARPANET (the ARPANET, first deployed by Kleinrock and others in 1969, is the predecessor of the Internet).[10]
In 1999, various media outlets suggested that Gore claimed that he "invented the internet"[11][12] in reference to a CNN interview in which he said, "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."[13]
In response to this controversy, Internet pioneers Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn wrote a 2000-09-29 article (originally sent via email) which described Gore's contributions to the Internet since the 1970s, including his work on the Gore Bill:
"	[A]s the two people who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time. Last year the Vice President made a straightforward statement on his role. He said: "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet." We don't think, as some people have argued, that Gore intended to claim he "invented" the Internet. Moreover, there is no question in our minds that while serving as Senator, Gore's initiatives had a significant and beneficial effect on the still-evolving Internet. The fact of the matter is that Gore was talking about and promoting the Internet long before most people were listening. We feel it is timely to offer our perspective. As far back as the 1970s Congressman Gore promoted the idea of high speed telecommunications as an engine for both economic growth and the improvement of our educational system. He was the first elected official to grasp the potential of computer communications to have a broader impact than just improving the conduct of science and scholarship. Though easily forgotten, now, at the time this was an unproven and controversial concept.[14]	"

So, despite your hatred of Al Gore, you're still wrong to misquote him, which you still haven't owned up to....which is typical rhetoric of Al Gore haters. I suppose that even if the ice caps melted completely and you were canoeing around NYC you'd still claim global climate change is a hoax as well. Ignorance is bliss, huh? I guess all those scientists are wrong! i also suppose, by your logic that the CEO of Comcast is a fake if he buys his own cable service for his house, or that Rupert Murdoch can't watch his own fake news.

johnnyabnormal

@johnnyabnormal: I stand corrected. Upon reading your links, I have come to learn that my statement should have read:

The man "created" the internet for God's sake. If it wasn't for him we couldn't even read this article.
Let us all as individuals resolve to make sure that our carbon footprint is only as big as Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Al Gore's and no bigger

There is no question that there is a direct correlation between how much money a person has and how much carbon they emit. If you make pennies a day, you will release only the CO2 you breathe. If you make millions, you will release more CO2 than half of Ethiopia.

The issue is, how much carbon does Al Gore release compared to others in his income bracket? He looks really good in that comparison because he is extremely rich. Now add in that he offsets all of his carbon use, and then he is (in theory) squeaky clean. Admittedly, it he could find a way to fly all around the world without using any energy, that would be vastly better. But, that is not possible.

Keep in mind, we are talking about someone who has done more to bring the awareness of climate change to the world than anyone. I think it is safe to say that when you look at the carbon he has assisted reduce in the world, he has to be about the greenest person on the planet.

Besides, the issue is not how much carbon someone else is releasing -- the issue is, what can you do to reduce your own carbon footprint? Don't worry about Al, or George, or anyone else. Worry about yourself and your family, and do what you can to reduce.

Monty

Typically in high end whole house music systems every room can access a different source from the main music server. In other words you can have a different song in every room. Also the remote in each room has a display of available music and sources. It's kind of like having a high end stereo in every room that can access your entire media (movies and music) collection.

MacBandit
