@HexiumVII: good point. i bought my last case/components with the intention of upgrading 2 years ago. bought the best mobo on the market at the time and cheaped out on hdd/processor/video/ram. in theory i could double the performance of everything in that system with upgrades that are no longer standards, but for what it would cost me (even 2 years later), i could (and did) buy a new imac.

EMoShunz

While being limited to upgrade options, how often does one really upgrade without doing a full system replacement anyways. Anything you can upgrade that is worth upgrading will be around 3 years down the line, interfaces change. This comes from a guy that uses server cases and have 6-8 HDD in his comps. This is a really nice computer.

HexiumVII

Classy. Pat on the back to Dell but compared to the iMac it's going to be an uphill battle. Spec-wise the iMac wins every category (less the tuner of course, dammit), is sexier, has a better OS, and is hundreds cheaper. Wait, wtf...just buy an iMac and a legal copy of Vista.

It would seem that most people didn't notice that this thing has a DVD burner in it and a TV tuner as well. Guess what people. Complile your own shows by using the DVR function in Vista, edit and put them together using the bundled Adobe Elements Studio and burn then to blu-ray DVD (if you want). Yeah, even when compared side by side with the Imac - it still doesn't have a Blu-Ray BURNER in it. The cheapest I was able to find was nearly 600 dollars for an internal Blu-Ray burner. And then its not slot loading and intergrated into the machine.

PuckOTG22

It should be noted that the iMac is on the low-end of the Mac line, while the XPS One is being marketed as a performance machine. If you add in the costs of the XPS premiums (like the TV tuner, wireless 'board & mouse, and increased memory) to a comparable iMac, the two stack up comparably, although I'd personally give the edge to the iMac due to graphics cards in all models and larger screen option.

sumocat

@Monty: Microsoft doesn't make computers and therefore is not in competition to sell computers with Apple. They sell the operating system software (more specifically - licenses) at wholesale to OEMs.

Moreover, on the business side of the market, where PC manufacturers like Dell are entrenched, Microsoft makes a killing. Every workstation sold is another Windows license, sold through the computer manufacturer. Microsoft sells the license wholesale to the manufacturer who then passes the cost with markup to the buyer. It's how retail works.

That said, Dell, a computer manufacturer, is in competition with Apple to sell computers and this is a losing entry.

OMG! Ponies!
