You know, I had the DS Lite, but recently sold it in favor of the PSP Slim. Why? I was blown away by the graphics and multimedia capabilities. Sure the battery life stinks, but man does it look good. I just watched Happy Feet on a recent trip and the movie looked great on it! Plus, as a upper-20's guy, I don't feel silly holding a PSP as I did with a DS. Games for the PSP are pretty good and getting better all the time. Jeanne D'Arc is fun stuff...

berribrand

@weatherman: i don't hate the psp, i think it's awesome, just prefer the ds for games...me, i don't tell anyone not to buy the psp for games, especially if they are planning on getting a ps3 (like i have a wii). (unless they are getting on in years like me, then i suggest the ds).

EMoShunz

@EMoShunz: Hey, to each his own. I got no problem with people who like the DS, but I just think that there are too many people who have decided that because they like the DS, they have to hate the PSP and they start making up reasons to do so. I'm not a huge fan of the games on the DS personally, but I'm sure that they're perfect for some folks.

weatherman

@weatherman: i should clarify that...FOR ME the ds is better for gaming. it's the ease and intuitiveness of it. i gamed as a kid on the 8-bit nintendo (super mario 1, 2, 3, link/zelda, dragon warrior 1 & 2) and didn't game again until the ds/wii came out because all those damb buttons were too much to learn, and just frustrating because i couldn't play with anyone because they all kicked my ass and it was no fun to play for 10 seconds and that was it.

EMoShunz

@EMoShunz: if you think it's great for everything but gaming, you obviously haven't looked at what's available in the gaming area recently. 335 games available on the PSP, 105 of them worth playing vs 336 games on the DS only 80 of which are worth playing.

@ceilingFANBOY: well, that's true. But what really changed was that it got a big facelift. People weren't embarrassed to be seen in public with it after the redesign because it looked slick. The PSP doesn't look any different - all the changes are internal, really. The slimness is really just a slight cosmetic change. The upgraded internal features don't really do a whole lot for me personally - I just don't see a situation where I'm hooking it up to a TV. Obviously faster load times are nice, but not a system-upgrade worthy feature in my book. I think the real appeal is for new buyers as opposed to upgraders, which is a big difference between the DS-L and the PSP-S - a million PSP-S sold is probably a million new PSPers, whereas a lot of the DS buyers were upgraders.

I own both and for me the PSP is the clear winner in terms of games, graphics, online play and other media features. Where the DS and the PSP have been pretty even in the US, I think this is definitely going to be the season of the PSP.

weatherman

I'd also like to know what numbers DS lite did in 2 months time. A mil in 60 days or so seems like superb numbers-will the PSP Slim continue to keep moving full speed ahead for awhile or will it drop soon is something else I'll wonder about.

Gadgetgirl

So, what are these amazing DS numbers? One million in two months sounds pretty good, but if we have to keep mentioning how they do not compare to the DS, then I really would like to know how many DS Lite's were sold in the first two months.

Monty

I don't remember the DS Lite being that much better than the standard DS. A little bit smaller, better battery life, and a brighter screen was all I remember. Compare that to the new PSP having a better processor, faster UMD, being smaller, video output, and is more battery efficient (yea, I know, it's only longer battery life if you use one of the original batteries), there were more improvements from the old PSP to the new PSP. There just weren't the improvements that people were wishing for (second analog nub, built in flash memory).

ceilingFANBOY

but being second to the Flash in a footrace doesn't mean you're slow
good point. the psp has some great potential, for me however it is like the ps3, great as a all in one unit for everything but gaming.

EMoShunz
