I talked to the developers of the mic add-on and it can be ordered for 30 EUR / 44 USD with US/EU shipping included...not too bad, maybe a bit expensive.

Yes, Altus, 2008 will be a glorious year -- if Apple doesn't cripple bluetooth/VOIP-straddling apps and hardware in their next firmware carnage-fest.

Personally, I'm waiting for a higher capacity Touch. However, I won't be buying one if the best hackable options enjoyed by previous gen 2008 users -- as well as basic connectivity -- are defeated by new hardware and firmware (see the so-called Classic).

I agree. Making a bluetooth adapter for this thing would be perfect, and not only that but much more realistic. they had bluetooth adapters for the regular iPod's so why not the iPod touch?

The iMuffs adapter for the iPod (which i used for the 5G iPod) actually worked on the iPod touch (for music/videos) why not try and hack the adapter to allow both in and out communications from any headsets? surely that can be done, except may be a little more complicated. but at least you dont have to build a compatible bt adapter

When the full developer program for the iPhone/Touch kicks in we're going to see a lot of very exciting and innovative applications. It will be the first time that on a small device that fits in your pocket and that can connect anytime/anywhere there is a world-class development platform. 2008 is going to be a great year!

now I regret selling my touch...not
I watched the guy make this mic everystep of the way on ipodtouchfans.com I knew it would happen eventually but it still doesnt make it worth it. If it had camera and gps functionality it would be but what can you expect out of a $400 brick? I really missed having a hard button even if it is the scroll wheel, its just touch screens leave a void ya know?

The reason apple didnt include VOIP/microphone/bluetooth is it would have cannibalised the iphone sales.

I'd much prefer bluetooth - you could then use VOIP using a headset AND share an internet connection from say..an HSDPA phone = heaven!

it's not ha-ha funny, but amusing, yes.

i think manufacturers are just lazy, dont want to support potentially problematic technologies... if the touch had shipped with skype they'd have to get their lawyers together to rub dicks, which reportedly cuts into the bottom line.

Isn't it funny that some of the most anticipated tech uses are the ones provided by adding existing functionality to existing devices in ways that carriers and manufacturers don't want us to?
