Wow. I just watched the video and I've gotta say that such Mac users make me cringe. He calls Windows and Excel ugly yet I wonder exactly how the Mac equivalent compares to both. Safari and iTunes have interfaces that rank right up there when it comes to being drab (I absolutely loathe both programs). I'm also a Mac user but not a fanboy by any means. Do I think Apple has a better OS? Yeah. Do I think they have better hardware? No. Do I think Apple makes working with a computer a more rewarding experience? Unequivocally so. If any of you who hate Apple or don't understand why it has such a cult following, I encourage you to watch this clip from a British show called QI. It is hosted by one of the most intelligent people I know, Stephen Fry.

There's about a minute or two of stuff you wouldn't understand without watching the rest of the series but he goes on to explain how the Prince of Liechtenstein offered to sell, or was going to offer, the entire country to Bill Gates. He then explains why Windows is wrong. I think you'll find it interesting.

Fry is known as a Mac fanatic. One of the funniest parts is when one panelist (Dara O'Brien) asks if he's having virus problems.

Lucky or just plain skilled (I choose to believe the latter) he made those decisions knowing what he was doing. Eventually he came out on top and has been the richest man in the world by leaps and bounds for a very long time.

To say he doesn't deserve the credit is like saying the sky ain't blue, doesn't matter if you like him or not.

first off, when did Charlie Rose start doing bit work for 60 minutes? I cant imagine when he has time because the charlie rose show is on 5 days a week, and watching the credits of a CR show you get the idea he is quite hands on.
PS I had the same thing too when I was in school. I never studied for tests or even really did home work. I would just flatten all the tests and raise my hand enough to let the teacher know I was ahead of everyone. Got high marks because me and one other kid were between the school losing their magnet school funding. And they actually were dumb enough to let us know it! Me and Jeanry walked all over that school. We were nerd jocks in a way.
Too bad I wasted my smarts on drugs and booze and fast women instead of building a software empire.
But I doubt bill has ever been in bed with 3 women at once. Or smoked PCP in a lower east side squat with 2 punk rock chicks.

Just saying, even if I was the richest man on earth I wouldn't give that guy change. Interrupting a meal and conversation (in front of cameras) is completely rude, panhandlers should at least be polite and considerate when asking for a handout. That's my rule anyway. I prefer to give to street musicians in the subways who are at least trying to do something for change instead of nothing at all instead of playing the "I'm poor and miserable so I'm entitled to your money" card.

Stupid he is not, the smartest guy, not by far. The President or CEO of a company is rarely the smartest guy working there. I am a huge Mac fan, but I have nothing against Gates. If you complain about Gates and his business practices, you should never get a tax refund. There's nothing wrong with using the system rules to get ahead. That's how America works, like it or not.

He would still be the #1 richest person if he didn't give so much money away, so how is he making money from giving it away? In fact he's doing such a great job at giving money away, Warren Buffet, another one of the richest men in the world, has has pledged nearly his entire fortune to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. And I would say Warren Buffet is 10x smarter than Gates.

All that aside, why the heck can't the guy get a decent haircut?? I could do better with a bowl! I mean, it looks like Ray Charles took to his head with a weed wacker!! It's like Jobs and his clothes: is the man so cheap he can't only buy one outfit. He's like a friggin' cartoon character!!

The guy had a hand in what is probably the vast majority of my real world computing experience.

i dont give bill gates as much cred as the rest of you are giving him. he was being given compliments...something that he gets all the freaking time. not to mention i'm sure he's had a million interviews like this. and personally i dont consider him anything of a genuis. he made some really good moves at just the right time, but lets not overdo it here people.

i'll give credit where credit is due though. he does alot for the community (gives a ton of money and scholarships away) and despite the number of (brown nosing) interviews that he has given, he was still pretty cool during this thing.

I have no way to like or dislike the guy, I dont know him in person but looks like is possible to have a civil and not only microsoft/HIV/what_I_think_the_world_needs type of conversation.
