Who cares that he was on the internet what the crap people. I cannot see why everyone gets all worked up over a cop on a website and takes a picture of himself. How is going to one website and taking a picture of yourself cause for being fired? The second he told his boss that he was just there for taking a picture for a contest the boss should have let it slide. But obviously his head was too far up the super duper rule book.

i wouldnt be surprised if the person reporting him was some goof that he works with who has a personal problem with him.

the only way this activity cost even a single 'public dollar' is if this guy is getting paid hundreds of dollars an hour..it only takes a few seconds to snap a quick picture. even at 50 bucks an hour this pic didnt cost the public a full dollar.

also, if there was an incoming call to respond to, i doubt he would have put it on hold to get this picture taken and uploaded.

i do agree however, that taking a picture of the office wasnt super smart, but whats the point of taking the pic for this contest if you cant tell where he is browsing giz?

i also agree, that if he wasnt supposed to look at giz at work, that he shouldnt even be able to reach the site from his pc there. sounds like pretty bad handling of policy regarding the internet usage at his office.

im not sure if i feel bad for the guy or not though, he must have known he was taking a gamble. i just feel bad for the one who reported him. that person must have a shitty life and no self esteem if this kind of thing strikes them as being important enough to bother reporting/costing a guy wages and possibly his job.

there was a study done where people took a test, then were asked how they thought they scored. the people scoring in the bottom 2% thought they were in the top 2%, because they are so stupid that they think they are smart. watch out for these people...

Ok, seriously, what the hell?

1- You're a police officer. Not only are you on the public dollar, you're responsible for people's lives. Yes, you might be in the office and bored, but there are better things you could be doing.

2- You're a police officer. Not only are you likely to have a lot of people that don't like you, there are probably a lot of people that could benefit from a loss in your credibility. Why the hell would you do something so stupid when it's insanely obvious you would be caught?

3- You're a police officer. Not only is sending in a picture of your office as stupid as anywhere else, but it could potentially contain dangerous information.

Really, the cop was reading a blog in some free time, not a huge deal, but then he TOOK A PHOTO OF HIS OFFICE containing said blog, and SENT IT IN FOR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO SEE. It would've been more amazing to see nothing happen to him.

As many stupid mistakes as the guy made, I honestly am not sure he should be trusted with the authority and power that comes with such a position.

stupid people need to die. this Officer was just looking at a tech website while in the office, its not like he was looking at porn or gambling. hell he was not even shopping, he was just reading the news and keeping up to date. Most places allow such internet usage, hell my old man works for the government and hes allowe don certain sites, during office hours, and the sites hes not allowed on they have blocked, maybe the sheriff should have thought of blocking GIZ if it was considered a net usage violation. Whoever told on this guy needs to be beaten with a stick, and get a life, theres alot more corruption going on i'm sure in our legal system then what this guy was doing.

I didn't read all the rants, but the story does not say David actually lost his job.

"He was also removed from his position, docked pay, and has a written reprimand that will stay in his file for three years."

Docked pay, and reprimand don't go with getting fired. He's probably back out in a squad car. Most cops I know would prefer that duty over county jail duty anyway.

I think David made up this story to get another 15 minutes. ooorrrr an inmate is a Giz reader and ratted him out. Not THAT would be a story!

I work for a county agency and surf Giz at work. It may be a "violation" of internet usage policy*, but why are they being so uptight about it? We have a similar internet use policy to make sure people actually do some work...if he was surfing Giz and etc all day that would be one thing, but sheriff's deputies are usually out on the beat or doing paperwork.

The person that reported it is a fuck, and so is the douche that enforced the policy all hard-assed! And the punishment is totally whack, too.

*And, no, just because I wrote the policy at work doesn't mean that I'm exempt...everyone can surf, we just make sure that they don't do it all day long. Employees are not slaves! We have very rarely had issues with people not doing their jobs or doing them properly because of internet usage.
