DRM has got nothing to do with it. In order to increase the amount of time that can be stored on a certain size media, without increasing the size proportionally, the content is compressed, whether AVCHD, HDV, or whatever. Which means individual video frames are not stored, rather it is an encoded (NOT encrypted) stream. Editing software has to decode (NOT decrypt) the video in order to work with it. Think codec. Then if you want to generate a new file, the software has to reconstruct the new encoded stream. Which takes time.

When you choose to store data in a compressed format, you are trading a gain in space now for time spent later. That's just the way it is.

I just don't see why they all have to DRM up with this AVC shit when its YOUR OWN FOOTAGE.

mac sorta? (imovie 08 has AVCHD editing capabilities), otherwise importing into iMovie is your only option
