I'm not hugely disappointed about the lack of a Blu-Ray, however, I am surprised that it isn't an add on option- normally Apple lead the way in this sort of thing.

Personally, I'm hoping that they update the MacBook Pro at the keynote, and not just introduce the predicted slim notebook.

However, how likely was it that Blu-Ray support would be introduced anyway? First, the most likely CPU updates expected are the ultra-portables which may not have an optical drive at all. Second, if Apple is busting their asses to get more movie content on iTunes and roll out a rental service then I doubt they'd apply too much energy and funds to enhancing the Blu-Ray DVD viewing experience on their machines. I guess thats a bit of a loose argument but you can be sure that Apple would rather channel you to their iTunes store instead of spending all your hard earned green on Blu-Ray DVD's. On the flip side, Blu-Ray is another factor that would push up Mac sales. I'll stop talking now, I'm getting nowhere.

Add whatnot to that list for a round 15!

As for why they are releasing these this week rather than waiting for MacWorld, they normally release their pro models separate from MacWorld. The only time they have included the pro machines in the Keynote is when they had major breakthroughs, such as moving form G3 to G4, or adding the DVD burner, or going from PowerPC to Intel processors. This is a speed bump. A massive one, for sure, but still only a speed bump.
