So how long do OLEDs last? What I heard is maybe 2 years or so - that's why OLED displays are only used in cell phones and MP3 players - devices with shorter lifespans and less display usage. I'd hate to spend $10 a key, then have the cost and hassle of replacing each of those keys every 2 years... They're on all the time your PC is on, reducing their lifespan whether you are typing or not.

As for Taiwan, I agree - it's a civilized country - I've been there several times, and it definitely is NOT China. It is also bristling with weapons bought from the USA and France to defend itself against China (including F-16s, Mirage-2000 jets, warships, etc.)

As for the price, in my opinion it is easily justfied. Frankly, $10 a key is extremely reasonable - but I doubt he'll be able to deliver at that $1500 price unless all his development costs are being covered by investors with a long-term outlook. If you think $1500 is high for a full-size keyboard (maybe 120 keys on that thing) with color display switches, then you've not looked at the cost of building, addressing, and backlighting 120 tiny displays, then writing software to make it easy to address the keys and giving that software away for free with each unit.

Many new products you see marketed took 3, 5, 10 years to develop -- you don't hear about them because it's bad when you announce a product, and all the novelty and excitement is gone 3 years later when the manufacturing process begins. The Optimus Keyboard was made by a design firm who originally published a concept (sorry to ruin the surprise?). You can't really expect an artist to turn over a brand new product in an "On the shelves by christmas!" timeframe.

I say they really should be given more credit for their efforts.
