I think putting Randy Newman in the Keynote is the p!ss-poorest decision Apple could ever have made. I hope a vast majority of the audience booed him off-stage. After all, this country is the reason Apple Computer is a successful company, and who do you think buys the vast majority of their products? Right. Americans. Brilliant one there Steve. I'm a fan boy, but that demonstration makes me ashamed to admit it.

I don't understand why you would get the air when you could just get an overloaded EEE pc for about a third of the cost? It's the same dimensions as a regular macbook, but thinner... okay... that's pretty nice.

What's the market for the air exactly? It's powerful, but lacks a dvd drive. Sure you can get itunes movies, or "borrow" a drive, but why exactly would you want to have to do that? Downloading a movie is still pretty painfully slow compared to plugging one in and watching it.

I can't really see exactly what the draw of this computer is, or who the market is supposed to be.

I guess this is Apple's way of moving people into the Itunes fold, and ushering us all into the realm of online movie and music purchases.

@computermachina: Aye. In the ultra-portable market it just doesn't make sense. Besides, even with an external optical drive, you're not really compromising the portability, with the exception that it's slightly clumsier.

For a large number of people, their laptop is their primary or only machine. I guess they just don't understand that they are not that target consumer for an ultra-portable solution.

Some comments would not show up for half an hour or more and others would only show up after posting a new comment myself. Sometimes I even had to sign off, sign on using IE, and then sign off and sign back on using Firefox. Oh, and it would happen under IE as well, so just using IE wasn't a quick fix.

One of the things I am looking forward to is APPLE not providing anymore 'wired' devices.
I think that's what they mean by "There's something in the air"
I'm thinking all of their devices will be wireless.
Being a fan of technology, I am looking forward to the next 10 years where we'll see just that. No more wires for anything... not even power, it will all be wireless.
So in a sense, I'm expecting for a lot of wireless introduction into devices.
Seeing how companies experiment with wireless power, displays, sound, it makes you wonder how long 'till we see the extermination for all types of wires and cables...

yah, it´s fake alright.

1) if it WAS real...at least you could assume that the ultra-thin macbook would in no way include a dvd-drive, more likely an sd-card drive or proprietary mac-ram drive or something.

2) Looking at the succes ratio of Apple today - they´re not likely to release a lot of new hardware - but a few improvements plus a HEAPLOAD of new software + upgrades.

My personal predictions for today include:

- New memory capacity for both the iPhone and iPod touch, possibly a harddrive capable iPod touch.
- New sleek iPod accessories.
- New software for iPod touch & iPhone.
- New Leopard additional features (free upgrade to new features).
- The Opening of iPod Touch and iPhone to 3rd party developers.
- Software upgrade features to other Applestore software.
- New software to the rest of the iPod series.

Plus...

I have a slight suspicion that Apple will
launch a navigation device on par with
what you can find out there...just with
better design and their own software of course ;)

So, it's really not the smoking gun Gizmodo originally thought it was. Of course it can still have been Apple's doing, but personally, I think that this actually pretty much says that whatever Apple announces tomorrow, it won't be named MacBook air. Why?

1. If that's actually the name of the product, Apple would've registered MacBookAir.com way before anybody else.
2. Apple (or anybody for that matter) doesn't need to have that URL redirect anybody anywhere till the product is actually announced (i.e., tomorrow).
3. If in fact it is Apple's intention to purposefully provide a "leak" sneak peek, then they could've chosen a better redirecting URL than the above, which, again, can be spoofed by anyone.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised that there are articles other than Macworld on Giz today. Come on guys, you've let me down. Whatever happened to everything else being just noise before Macworld? Also, I'm surprised NO ONE has made a joke about the Giz guys trying to sabotage the speech with a remote. Anyways, not that it will happen, but I'm wanting a MacMini...or MacMicro with a Blu-Ray drive in it to come out so I can put one in my room. Still not quite to the point where I can put 3000 into a laptop, but a moderately priced MacMini, I could swing that.
