"Has anyone ever actually bought a UMPC and used it for anything besides porn in the bathroom at work?"
hell yeah I do- I got a wibrain b1h and I am in love with it- the via graphics chipset so far even handles maya and cinema 4d without a problem, but mainly I am using it for portable music production (when I am on the train to work and at lunch)as it does well with both fl studio and ableton and surfing the internet when I am in bed and don't feel like sitting in front of the computer

entropyman

i still prefer the sony VAIO® UX Series. Not as pretty but has 3G and can be used as a cell phone with some modding. Not that I don't appreciate the design but probably wont have the hard keyboard, tactile feedback is a nice thing to have. I thib=nk sony should redesign the UX and you'd have the perfect UMPC.

barrygeorge001

That is a beautiful machine. It deserves design awards. This is truly visionary, much like the OLPC-XO that I'm writing this post on. The only downside I see to the Inventec machines is that they run Vista. It's a flawed system like all Windows systems. If I want a rock-solid OS I'll stick to OSX or Linux. The only thing Windows install discs are good for is coasters.

blaerk

@MadColombian: you know the Air lets you use another mac's optical drive over 802.11, right? And I would bet most people buying this already have another mac. But still, a standalone wireless solution would be nice as well, or maybe some Windows/Linux drivers for those who don't have a mac desktop or laptop capable of running 10.5... I'm not holding my breath for that though.

mac4drew

That docking setup is, for a lack of a better word, sick-tight. I would love if the Macbook touch/new newton took on a modular docking system like that. If there was a laptop like dock setup (like in the second picture) I could see them putting an optical drive and more ports on that and have the Macbook touch/new newton similar to the MBA. And It would have to fit into a manila envelope.

thechansen
