But I think I'll end up crapping my pants... this is too scary.
But the thing is: I already had contact to people like that. They feed from the same source as... terrorists and maniacs.

I'm no Mac user, I do think their design is awesome, but let's face it: Macs are not for everyone.

And I can only feel pitty for people who won't try different brands and computers because they are MacHeads like the movie title... but narrowminded people are everywhere, and for all sorts of things also.

Bokusatsu_Tenshi

I could go into the reason why Windows commands the majority share of the gaming market but you already know the reason (PPC vs. x86 until two years ago, etc). Apple is trying to gain some ground at the moment now that their on Intel chips.

To be honest, I haven't got the time for games. Not nearly as much time as I have for picking fights on tech blogs, at least. It's important to know that from my first post in this article, I never said Apple users were better or better off than PC users. If I did, it was purely satirical and you suck for not realizing it.
I honestly don't care what people use so long as it doesn't cause them to wake up every morning only to become a robotic zombie working for the Man in his concrete, windowless (no pun intended), shell of an office.

Frankly, I don't care if you think I'm wrong, either. If you do, I'll assume that you aren't comprehending what I'm trying to say because, after all, I do use a Mac so I can't be wrong.

@rsands1: This is humorous. You should be in that movie.

OSX/Windows is more like a nicely-featured car that you buy from the dealership that you can't change versus a kit car. When you buy that car from the dealership, you know exactly what you're getting, and it's a quality product.

That kit car on the other hand... you only get out what you put into it. Most people only put the bare minimum amount of functionality, and it's those Windows users that Mac people are so excited to mock.

However, there are those of us who really put in the extra work, and we can come out with something (arguably) superior to what you get from the dealership. The people who don't want to deal with kit cars think that those of us who do are morons, and vice versa.

There are valid points to be made no matter which camp you're in. Myself? I happen to be in the kit car camp, but can fully understand why someone would just want to get a car from the dealership.

Of course, I find it amusing that the dealership people show such disproportionate pride in something that just works; if anything, wouldn't you expect the "kit car" people to be more proud, seeing as they chose to have a hand in every part that went in and, in a lot of cases, actually put theirs together?

Anyway, I'm sure another Mac fanatic will be along shortly to tell me why my analogy is shit, and it should actually be Pinto vs. Ferrari. Whatever. I've said my piece, feel it's one of the most rational posts in here (to say nothing of one of the longest), and am now going to do some real work.

Sqube

I actually like it when "PC" users don't understand the whole experience of Mac OSX. And it absolutely is like a Ferrari/Ford comparison. I've used that analogy to compare OSX and Windows a couple of times actually. It makes perfect sense. The thing is as an OSX user I actually find myself feeling superior to Windows user...why you ask? Because I get the same feeling a guy gets when he pulls up in his Porsche at a stop light and is next to the guy in his mustang. I just smile and feel good about what I have. I love the fact that we have come to have a superior attitude. You can use a ton of analogies with OSX and Windows...expensive designer clothing versus cheap brand crap. Sure they are both clothing...but at the same time you know they aren't. Windows users you can flame me all you want but I couldn't care less. I will sit back drink my expensive Star Bucks Coffee and cruise on my expensive MacBook Pro and smile.

Aren't feeling the Ferrari vs Ford argument? Fine...how bout Dodge Viper vs Lamborghini? Both very expensive cars and extremely good performance...but one is a Dodge and one is a Lamborghini....sorry people but when I walk out of an expensive restaurant I want to tell the guy the black lambo is mine...not the um Dodge. lol

rsands1

@diabolusunknown: @SumGuy:

I fail to comprehend why you all insist on comparing components here. If it helps you at all to "get it through your thick heads" then fine, as far as components are concerned in this case, a Ferarri is the same as a Ford. I'm not talking about the f*cking components. I'm talking about the software and the intent (the original intent, not the current intent. Frankly, the MBA shows that Apple are screwing up the vision they had only a year ago.)

The last thing I believe is that Apple = luxury and to be honest I'm ashamed that some of you construed my comment in such a way. If I had a choice at the moment, I'd hit up the hackint0sh and OSx86 pages, spec out my own system, and build a OS X machine off of PC parts on the cheap. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with my MBP. My claim has zero to do with luxury and everything to do with thoughtful design and ease of use.

I'm a sys admin and I spend my day maintaining Windows networks and user PCs. When I get home at night, the last thing I want to do is worry about BSODs, some stupid malware my anti-virus failed to detect, or a GD driver issue. Hell, I use a Mac and I still have a hardware-based firewall, just to be on the safe side. To me, OS X is the epitome of the working-man's OS. It knows what I've dealt with on any given day. It knows that when I sit in front of the monitor I want all of my programs to be ready and waiting (Dock). If I need to want to install a program, all I should have to do is drag a pretty little picture to a folder and that should be that. OS X does this and more and I still can't help but feel some sort of appreciation. Though, it must be said, not enough to be featured in this film.

As for Ferarri vs Ford, in all honesty, do we want our car to be a painful reminder of what we don't look forward to each day of the week? When you wake up in the morning, do you dread going out to the car and driving off to work? I do. Between me and DIABOLUSUNKNOWN, wouldn't it be a bit easier to walk out of your house and into your Ferarri than it would to step into a Ford (this has nothing to do with the price of the car). You've driven a Ferarri and 'components' aside wouldn't you agree that there is something, call it the X factor, that makes it a more enjoyable experience. I know that work is going to suck no matter what car I use to get there but at least one choice lets me know that I'm still human. Forget the stupid components or how much more you paid for the pretty case, THAT is what separates OS X from Windows.

Sorry I had to write so much. I didn't realize how hard it would be for some people to understand.

I need another beer...

TJ

I get what you're trying to say, Apple is "luxury" and PC's are "economy". But still, to me the Ferrari vs Ford thing does not fit at all. Because like I said, Ferrari's dont have the same components as Fords. That is a true luxury item. Macs on the other hand use the same components packaged and marketed different. Its not the same.

Besides if you want to talk Ford, The Ford model-T revolutionized transportation and mass production. Ford also had the GT40 which beat Ferrari 4 years in a row in LeMan's in the 60's. And the ford Mustang is as important as any Ferrari. You should call PC's (Kia's) or something. Not Ford. ;)

SumGuy

...or maybe not. The car analogy had nothing to do with the the components of a Ford versus a Ferarri, rather their use and intent. Fords are intended more or less to fill a place in the market for a customer who uses it for transportation. A Ferarri is intended to be the best that it can possibly be given the resources provided for it's production. Not only does it provide the user with a means of transport, it gives the owner an experience. If you've never drive a Ferarri, even if it's just to say that you have, make sure you do before you die. You'll soon realize that it wasn't built to carry you from A to B. It's there to put a smile on your face and allow you a brief moment to get away from every life. Sure, I know OS X isn't going to be able to separate you from the stresses of work and a mortgage, but I think it's been designed with the user in mind a hundred fold more so than Windows has. There's a reason why Apple is known for their UI, after all.

There, now it's nuff said...

TJ

@Ron-Mexico:

I am no where near the point as the people featured in the film nor are 99% of Mac users out there. I have a passion for all electronics and software and their manufacturers, not just Apple. It's why I read Giz so much. I would say that I'm not the only one on this thread who believes that. However, I'm only passionate towards gadgets and software that have been thoughtfully developed with the user in mind, not for the sole purpose of function or profit.

Think of it in terms of a car. Anyone can buy $20k Ford and it'll get them from point A to point B with no problems at all. However, I'm the type of person who would rather spend ten times as much on a Ferrari because of the passion and consideration that it's builders put into the car. Ford builds in volumes for a profit while Ferarri builds in mind of the customer for the sake of building cars because it's what they like to do. This, essentially, sums up OS X vs. Windows, in my mind.

To be fair, I haven't enjoyed Apple's aggressive marketing as of late. Before, Apple relied on their fan base to spread the word of their superiority. Lately, they've lost sight of the customers and started smelling the green. Honestly, I hope the Mac haters never realize what they're missing out on. That way, Mac fans can continue avoiding the malware and viruses while keeping the flame wars burning at the same time.

LOL @TDJ114's notion that Windows is somehow responsible for creating zombies (if that post isn't ironic I don't know what is.)

Seriously, maybe a lot of Mac users don't realize this because they're too close to the situation, but this is pretty much in-line with the perspective a lot of non-Mac users have when they think of Mac users and the Mac culture. Some might find that type of culture enticing and join up. But a lot of people just find that type of passion revolving around an electronics and software maker borderline creepy. How many people do you know who go around slapping Sony, Tivo or Blackberry stickers on their car?

Ron-Mexico

@apexevo8:

"theres no gay movie about a bunch of douchbags with no lives who use pc's"

That's because we don't need a movie to explain why people who use Windows don't have lives. Granted, many PC users do what they have to do and get on with whatever else they have to do. My problem, and I suspect a lot of other Mac users would agree, is the whole notion of the OS being an environment. It's Windows that has contributed the most to the notion of the big, gray, dull office buildings that we dread commuting to everyday. There is no thought, no joy, no imagination in Windows and spending your entire day in a damn Excel spreadsheet is no way to ask someone to live. The zombies you see walking down the street day after day of your unfulfilling life? They're there thanks to Windows.

TJ
