Apparently they ran into a lot of lawyers in the LA area and backed off. There are a LOT of rich people in LA who want their medication I suppose.

Getting a doctor to give you a certificate is harder then most people think. They DO require medical records, and if you're willing to find a "Care provider" willing to grow it for you, the "growing" establishment has to pass stringent security checks, and they also have to have a special certificate as a "Care provider". You are definitely restricted on how much you grow, depending on how many patients you care for.

The doctors examination usually costs from $150 - $300 depending on the doctor, and after you pay that, you are not guaranteed to get your certificate. It's all up to the doctor on whether or not he or she thinks it will help you. You have to get re-certified every year.

When transporting the weed, they usually seal it up in a bag, and ask that you not open it until you get home, and transport it in your trunk (or boot).

It's a good idea to pick a club that issues you an ID Card. In case you get picked up by the police, they call a number on the card you give them for 24/7 confirmation you're a patient.

There are usually about 40 - 80 different kinds (body or head high), varying prices from $95/8th for "Alaska Thunderfuck" down to Mexican Green for $15.

You ARE tracked and identified when you enter a club, and they do keep records on just how much and what kinds you buy. You go to place, get buzzed in, see receptionist person who takes your card, they enter it into a computer, then they Buzz you into the Back area where there is at least one cop or security guy, and you pick what you want, and in some places, you pay with your ATM Card, and like ALL medication is tax deductable. THAT is where you find the vending machines.

Some of the larger clubs also sell growing equipment, and you can even purchase a DVD on how to grow it (From the vending machines of course).

And NO, you won't find these machines on a street corner, they are usually behind about 3 layers of security.

These "dispensories" are very very secure. Most have police in the reception room asking for your ID and card. They are very low key, in non discript places.

There is no limit to the number of "Clubs" you can go to, but for every new "club" you have to produce documents, and they call your doctor to confirm you are one of their patients.

I still can't get over the idea of walking into these places and handed cannibus by a cop or security guard.

I have a herniated disc, in a LOT of pain most of the time, and I'm told I have just a few years of walking unassisted...

I don't consider myself as a "lucky sick bastard"... I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time, and dealt a nasty blow of trauma in my past years. There is a good reason why they call it "Compassionate" use by the state of Calif.

I have found that $8 worth of good cannabis (in a cookie form) takes care of a serious migraine better than $200 worth of Imitrex, the medicine my HMO MD prescribes for my migraines ... and better than a $300 trip to the ER plus an injection of powerful opiates. I have a friend who uses it instead of the six different psych drugs she used to get ... all of which just made her crazier, while cannabis makes her mellow enough to handle a retail sales job.

I have another friend who threw away his Ambien, and gets far better, far less "crazy", less hung-over sleep on cannabis alone.

I never get a hangover from cannabis, I don't get that "queasy" feeling that Vicodin (which doctors prescribe right and left for nearly everything) gives me.

It's good medicine, one of the medicines described in the world's oldest medical text (from ancient China.) Cannabis is even mentioned in the Official US Pharmacopeia, before the 1920s. I have a 1905 edition. It's true.

Cannabis is illegal only because of somebody's racist crusade, and because the Prohibitionists needed something to do once prohibition was repealed back in the 1920s.

Sure, besides being good medicine, does it also fuck ya up and help you feel better? Sure. How is that wrong? Isn't medicine *supposed* to help people feel better?

Soulman, visit a dispensary for a tour. You'll see every kind of citizen, every race, every age, buying medical cannabis for real medical problems ... and getting better results than from Big Pharma's Latest Money Suck.

As for the "pot has more tar than cigarettes" canard, even if we accept as fact the idea that 1 joint has as many carcinogens as four cigarettes (which I don't necessarily accept), can you show me anybody who smokes 10 joints a day? I can show you a whole bunch of people who smoke 40 cigarettes -- 2 packs -- a day. And they're usually the ones who get lung cancer.

We could very easily make pot work within the current framework of laws (no selling to minors, no driving under the influence, etc), but instead we choose to keep it completely illegal. Why? The government makes tons of money seizing property from "drug operations", and the tobacco and alcohol lobbies pay dearly to keep the competition out of the picture. Pure and simple.

As far as tobacco being natural (and green) yes it is. BUT, the point I was driving at is the legalization of pot is not the end-all be-all answer, but unlike a pot plant, you have a whole other process tobacco has to go through to get it in the form humans consume; a man made process, including adding non-natural chemicals.

I'm no religious person at all, and not a hippie or naturalist by any means, I was basically just pointing out the discrepancies in the behavior most people exhibit when high on pot VS when drunk or high on powers/pills.

For the record, even if (and I don't know 4 sure I'm no doc) the tar deposits of 1 joint are equal to 4 cigarettes, pot still comes out on the "less bad 4 U" side as most who smoke cigs smoke WAY more than 4 a day, but some who smoke pot (including me) don't even smoke 1 joint a day regularly with work and social activities, so that argument is moot 4 me. I'm sure some smoke WAY more than 1 or 2 joints a day but still that's not even remotely close to a pack of smokes, which is not an unusual amount for a regular smoker; or more.

Coming from someone that sounds like they have never smoked pot, it's not a very credible sounding argument. It sounds like you've watched to many anti-pot, "we're in the drive through stoned, and hit the little girl on her bike" commercials.

Munchies? Yeah, but unlike the stereotypes, you don't loose all your self control when high. You can easily say no to more pot after your high, because once U R high enough, you don't want any more; unlike Tobacco and alcohol which can change your physical need to ingest that substance.
But as you said; leagalize it, and tax it. DONE.

Um....tobacco is a plant. Nicotine is the drug contained in that plant.
Pot and tobacco are both naturally occurring plants. Just because one is more addictive than the other doesn't change the fact that both are basically just dried leaves and buds.

Pot slows people down. It delays reaction times. They might drive slower, but that also slam on the brakes later than a sober person when a child runs in front of their car. Also, 1 joint deposits the same amount of tar in your lungs that 4 cigarettes do.

What is your reasoning behind this? Have you ever had a condition that medical marijuana could have helped? I had cancer and marijuana was the ONLY thing that eased the pain and relieved the nausea of chemotherapy. Don't comment on things you know nothing about.

Actually, it isn't required that it be dispensed by a pharmacist.
You have to get a legit prescription from an MD,
but after that, it bypasses traditional medical vendors.

Also- you hardly need glaucoma or cancer;
it's approved as a treatment for insomnia, anxiety, and depression,
which makes it pretty easy to get a prescription if you want one and are willing to pay.
