iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Has Issues With GPS, Official SDK?

My experience with the 1.1.3 jailbreak is mixed. At first I lost all my icons and then I manually re-installed them. But later Installer 3.0 came out and I they all came back but many of them will no longer work and there is no way to uninstall them and re-install working versions.

I tried to RESTORE to an earlier version via Itunes but it crashed on me.

My biggest problem is that the email client no longer works. IT comes up but then the screen clears and immediately go back to the spring board.

I can confirm that i used the Nate True method on my 1.1.1 and it broke EDGE and ringtones

after adding sleepers.net/iphonerepo to the installer/sources and then running 1.1.3 Ringtone Fix

voila ... ringtones working

had already fixed EDGE with a Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

Just installed the official 1.1.3 upgrade on my jailbroken 1.1.2 phone unlocked with IPSF through installer. The installation took about 45 minutes and the phone rebooted normally. Phone functions work but I have the following problems: SMS crashes on opening, mobile Calendar crashes on opening and Maps crashes on opening. Everything else seems OK. Any suggestions?

It works fine for me, NAte True. My ringtones didn't work at first, but then I just turned up my ringer, it was off. Real hard to fix, guys. The locate me doesn't work, and summerboard is not uninstallable. I think when the SDK comes out, I'll just go official. I didn't experiance any mail or edge problems.

I used the official dev team jailbreak - worked fine. No problems. DRM content works fine. Nate True wanted the glory by jumping the gun on his release without doing enough testing - now everyone who jumped early are suffering for it.

I have used the Nate True method on my 1.1.1 Firmware iPhone, which was upgraded from an original 1.0.2 Firmware. The process was OK, until the last rebooting step. Which kept the iPhone at starting APPLE icon and never get back to life. I had to enter into DFU Mode and roll back to older firmwares. 1.0.2 -> 1.1.1 and had to install everything back again.

It seems there is an issue for this method on older iPhone basebands. My phone is on 1.1.1 now until further notice.

I used Nate's jailbreak method, and it worked fine for a while, except for the Google Maps location. Then out of nowhere, my phone soft reset itself and went back to an unactivated state. I downgraded back to 1.1.2, and I'm staying here until all the apps I use are compatible with 1.1.3, and I know that my phone isn't going to deactivate at random.

P.P.S. To fix EDGE, ringtones, mail preferences etc., simply add sleepers.net/iphonerepo as a source, and you will be able to install apps that solve these problems. The packages are easy to find - they typically have names starting with 1.1.3. Cheers.

I will add one more issue - no sound when music or video purchased from the iTunes store is played; previews from the iTunes store don't play.

Based on googling, it seems that the problem comes from upgrading directly from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3. I downgraded back to 1.1.1 last night, but somehow couldn't upgrade to 1.1.2 (jailbreak.jar didn't work for me after repeated attempts), so I'm back to 1.1.1 at the moment.

P.S. For those who haven't tried the soft upgrade yet, UNINSTALL ALL YOUR APPS before you do so. Most problems in installing the soft upgrade can be overcome simply by doing this. Cheers.

Everything can easily be fixed. In installer go to sources and add sleepers.net/iphonerepo. Once that is installed go into system and install all the 1.1.3 fixes (edge, ringtones, email, etc) and everything works great.

GPS and EDGE issues are real. Crapz. About the apps, I'm not worried. Have you ever seen some "Windows Signed Driver"? C'mon if you were a developer, would you let one third of market just because of a signing? I think they'll release both iTunes and Installer versions.

mine seems to work fine. The gps works fine (although i did install locateme). Everything works fine except sometimes the connection cuts off. Don't know if thats just my phone.

skyhook wireless does the wifi/gps to WPS stuff, google the cell tower data... which they get from the providers and other sources...

"The official iPhone Dev Team" has problems with syncing the address book, mail, bookmarks and everything else. only music and video syncs fine...

there's a "fix" but that fix doesn't work well and doesn't allow editing or new entries...!!!

I spent the last 18 hrs trying to get this working. The problem I'm running into is that when I upgraded to 1.1.3 (full) it seems to have changed something about my SIM card - so when I roll back to 1.1.1 (jailbroken) or 1.1.2 (jailbroken) I cannot get the SIM card to be recognized as valid. It doesn't hook on to the AT&T network. So when I use the DevTeam updater, it gets me to 1.1.3 (jailbroken) but maintains the unrecognized SIM status. The only way I can get AT&T service again is to do a full restore to 1.1.3 (full). Any thoughts?

I think this may just be a general problem with 1.1.3, but I absolutely cannot get my Gmail account to work. The settings area of my mail setup will not remember my account password, not matter which method I use to set up Gmail (manually using the "other" account or the Gmail button, which is supposed to set up IMAP automatically).

Anyone else have this problem, or possibly know a fix?

To all those having EDGE / ringtone problems etc

Add 'sleepers.net/iphonerepo' as an Installer Source.
They have fixes for all these issues.

As for the faux GPS, the baseband needs to be upgraded to function, which neither Nate's or the "official" Dev Team jailbreak does.
The only way to get this to work is to run Navizon or LocateMe everytime you reboot.

They have a folder called "Tweaks (1.1.3)" which has fixes to all these issues.

As to the faux GPS, the baseband needs to be upgraded for it to work, which neither Nate's jailbreak or the "official" Dev team one does. All you can do is use Navizon or LocateMe every time to reboot.

Nates jailbreak:
worked fine, just had to uninstall and reinstall all 3rd party apps.
No big deal BUT Customize doesnt work SmB doesnt work so all themes are useless. and SENDSONG which gives us ring tones does not work.
I did it AGAIN and should have waited, from buying the phone to cracking it- once, twice, three times...I will never learn...
Maybe jiggly icons make it worth it, but the bookmark shortcuts are awesome

had the same problems some people have had: location service doesn't work(tried navizon to no avail), EDGE indicator missing.

so, doing a full restore to standard apple-issue 1.1.3 and waiting for the SDK. chances are, if it's an open platform, then all the stuff available from Installer will be rewritten anyway.

Making it sound like Nate's jailbreak could have cause irreparable damage is FUD. As people have already demonstrated, it's a simple matter to do a fresh install, do a full upgrade/restore to 1.1.3, go back down to 1.1.1, retry as many times as you like, etc., etc.

Personally, when the SDK comes out, I'm just going to go with Apple official firmware from then on, without jailbreaking. The hassle isn't worth it. Unless, of course, Apple's terms for 3rd party apps end up being more draconian than my taste (which is certainly a possibility).

There's also the problem with it not saving passwords within Mail.

All of these issues have fixes, however....

I've even seen some sources within the Installer App that provide apps that fix these issues without having to plug into a comp...

Like izimi said, the iPhone Dev Team 1.1.3 soft upgrade has the same problems has Nate True's 1.1.3 soft upgrade. The only difference is that supposely the Dev Team's soft upgrade is compatible with SDK. We'll see if it is when SDK releases.

@jadphoto: actually, the dev teams release is just as buggy but more difficult to fix. If you just HAVE to upgrade to 1.1.3 use nate's JB. More fixed problems than the devs JB. then when the SDK is released, you can just downgrade and use the dev team's JB (Nate's is rumored to not work with the SDK....)

The way to do it is start with a fresh 1.1.1 jailbreak. Then upgrade to 1.1.2 jailbreak and run the 1.1.3 jailbreak. Both Nate True's method and the Dev Teams method work fine, but I would still use the Dev Teams because it is the official release. Nate True got kicked off of the Dev Team because he leaked the jailbreak before the rest of the team agreed to release it. By doing that, he left out a few things that help make 1.1.3 work as good as it should.

Upgraged to 1.1.3 from Nate True's, everything worked for me with BigBoss's update except for the faux-gps. Tried the Navizon trick to no avail, so the biggest reason for me to upgrade was the location thing on Gmap, but no go. Oh, and the E for the Edge network is missing - big deal.

I've got a ipod touch jailbroken to 1.1.3 from 1.1.2 and all the iphone apps work fine including the google wifi GPS. Icon rearrangement works as well even though some haven't been able to get it to work.

1.1.3 is no super upgrade for me over 1.1.2. Just have to wait for the apps to catch up!

Funny... I'm on a Jailbroken 1.1.3 and I have had 0 issues. Maps w/ the Locate Me (or whatever it's called) feature works just fine. Ringtones work... It is not even aGPS... It's just a cell/wifi triangulator...

I did Nate's jailbreak, and after 4 tries, everything works except mail and my ringtonemaker. GPS (or fake GPS...sam) works just fine as well as EDGE network. But my mail says I need to go to settings and put in a password, and no matter how many times I do so, it says put in a password. Anybody know how to fix this?

If this ruins the ability to put in SDK applications, couldn't I just downgrade back to 1.1.1, re-jailbreak, and then do the new upgrage/jailbreak to get it to work?

I did the nate method and got almost everything to work. I still can't get the SSH icon back and have no way to turn it off and on. There was a patch on installer a while back, but it failed to install and I can't seem to find it anymore. In addition, I am unable to install SMB prefs again due to some sort of execution corruption.

After installation, OpenSSH doesn't work. I had moved my apps to allow more space and I'm atrributing this to the MAIN EXECUTION ERROR I get when trying to uninstall OpenSSH. Can't move my apps again till this is fixed.

I used the Nate hack, and it went great. 3 things didn't work.

1. GPS
2. No Ringtone plays when calls are made
3. Edge symbol was missing.

I am on a standard 1.1.3 now, and I like it.

@mcg1969: It upgrades the firmware, but not the baseband. The new baseband is needed for google maps to work.

I hate to nitpick, but please stop calling it GPS (even just in the headline). GPS refers specifically to the US-run system that uses satellites, which the iPhone does NOT use.

I did the full jailbreak with no problems at all. Everything is working great and there are fixes if you have any problems in installer if you add the right sources. Even for the edge settings for other carrierss.

I think that if you do a full update to 1.1.3, then downgrade to 1.1.1, and jailbreak your way to 1.1.3, the faux GPS works again. I believe the problem is that the 1.1.3 jailbreaks by themselves update only the software, not the firmware.

I used the iphone dev team jailbreak on my ipod touch, and the gps dealie works fine for me. And I only screwed the installation up and had to restore back to 1.1.1 twice!

i used nate's method at first then restored and used Dev Team method. both leave huge files behind that you have to manually delete. Everything works fine for me with the dev method (ringtones/locate me) ALTHOUGH with the upgrade i am experiencing the SMS bug where multiple SMS is displayed out of order in conversations. I have a 1.1.1. otb unlocked -> 1.1.2. unlocked jailbroke, now on soft 1.1.3 unlocked on T-Mobile now. I'm gonna guess that the SDK apps wont work using this method..but i'm sure someone will find a way.

The only mains problems on nate's jailbreak are:

Cannot play Ringtones and of course Google Maps GPS, the first one it's fixable, and the second only works in countries that iphone its officially launched already( tested by myself, ah hell yes i got the problem that itunes could not play preview.

If signed apps cannot be installed on the next firmware update, remember that we already have installer.
