quick queston. Does any one know how the us 3g network compares to that of europe? I mean I have a locked at&t phone that boasts its 3g network and it sucks. its no faster than my n95 (unlocked) with web browsing or downloading utube or anything. very slow. also has anyone figured out a way to use features like video(other than the one way) calling or push to talk with the n96 or n95 or any unlocked phone period? I have at&t they will give me no support for the unlocked phone, its like i crossed over to the darkside or something they treat me like i have a pandemic or something. so I cant make wap purchases from there media net site. that sucks. but if any one has any info it is greatly apreciated. Oh yeah since every ones on the war I wish I could take the features of both iphone and nokia and make a even better one. they both have significant pros and cons that effect users greatly.

Your posts start out by saying how big of a fan your are of Apple, then you trash Apple by comparing their products to Nokia phones that cost twice as much.

BTW, the iPhone is not sold in Australia yet. The iPhone's screen is both larger and higher resolution than the N96, the N96 is 45% thicker than the iPhone, iPhone has better battery life, better browser and media player, more RAM and virtual memory. I could keep going, but I think you get the point. Oh yeah, the N96 does have an FM radio (if you purchase an antenna separately), 3G, and GPS (which the new iPhone will have shortly). Not sure what a huge Apple fan would be doing purchasing a Nokia that costs twice as much and blows, relatively, that is. Don't get me wrong, I think the N96 is an awesome phone, but to say that it blows the iPhone out of the water is a huge misstatement.

Ok, so I am a huge Apple fan; however I am also willing to say that the limitations on the iPhone keep it bound. The Nokia N-96 blows the iPhone out of the water. With expansion capabilities, GPS, and DVD quality video, the iPhone does not come close. As far as sales, the iPhone is on sale internationally. For example, it is sold in Australia on T-Mobile. So the whole "iPhone hasn't sold as much because of the fact that is only sold here on AT&T is lame." Also anybody with half a brain can figure out how to buy the iPhone and unlock it. I did and hated it.

Leave all those iphone vs Nokia wars.Well,to anyone who still dreams of iphone picking up sales,I tell you iphone has lost it's charm.With no 3g,2mp cam and other outdates(rather than updates!)Apple should think of a second version.But the painful thing being that Nokia,the king in handset world cannot make a single phone that is ergonomic,has better program memory(boots faster,seldom hangs...),faster processor,better battery and better OS.That is where Apple has proved it's worth.It's time the mobile world giant concentrate on basics rather than make others go for Apples and SEs.As far as N96 is concerned I dont have any big expectations.Nokia has simply lost it's way.

Funny how the iPhone is "barely" selling in Europe compared to the N95 but yet, it's the iPhone that's generating "unheard-of levels of mobile Internet usage," according to Vivek Dev, COO of Telefónica O2 Europe.

What exactly are people using the N95 for? Or is it simply because of data plans available for the iPhone?

I used to be an S60 fanboy. Being able to install apps seemed great at first, but the situation is hardly perfect in the S60 world. After frustration with the app situation, namely that some apps would run on my N80, some would crash it, some wouldn't install, etc, I gave up. And the lack of 3G in the US felt like a snub by Nokia too.

@hagrun: I didn't see anything about it not having 3G. It just said no US 3G support (yet). It'll probably come out as a US version sometime after the initial Euro launch.

I wonder if they'll remove/modify the TV-Tuner for the US version.

I like that it has 16GB of built in storage AND a microSD card slot.

The iphone doesn't sell in Europe because we gave laws against market domination , because they only sell it in france, germany and the UK and because europe exists of more than alone those three countries. Even if everybody American seems to think otherwise. AAAAND: nobody over here is stupid enough to spend 999 euros on an unlocked iphone.

I own an N95 8GB and I agree that this is NOT an upgrade but a downgrade. One of the most important reason people buy a high-end phone is status symbol. It is my main reason for buying a high-end phone.

If you own an N95 why on earth would you buy something that looks exactly the same as N81? There's something wrong with Nokia's Martketing team. Specs are secondary. Besides, other brands would have products whose specs are more or less the same.

A product has to differentiate, and NOT looking like a downgrade.

The iPhone is great no one can challage the fun in using it, the only prais real praise i would personally give the iphone it the fact that when its time to upgrade my Nokia E90 (which i use for absolutly everything in my Uni life) to the next version, its gonna be kickass.
Then buy the next version of the 3G iphone to compliment my nect nokia Communicator as both an ipod upgrade and to carry my second number.. Cos right now i carry my E90 (main soon to be just 3GB of data only sim a month for £15) S.E p990 (work) and my ipod.

@Kim98: Yeah, I think some people get their numbers mixed up pretty easily. I bet if iPhones were unlocked GSM, 3G with Flash support & had iChat they would have sold a lot better. Then again, I don't even want to imagine what they'd charge for it not going through a carrier. I got the 4GB version when it came out and have loved it. I was getting pretty sick of my Euro Unlocked N80 at the time and gave it to my wife. (hahaha) Then I got her a iPhone for xmas since it was glitching on her too often. After using OSX on a phone I feel spoiled...I don't know if I'd go back to Nokia even if they came out with something twice as good as the N95.

But that shouldnt stop u giving credit when ts due. the iphone is grabbing marketshare...in the U.S mobilephone market with crappy phones, even RIM dont sell outside the U.S... Nokia is hardly in that maket. n95 sold 7million in 10-11 months. The iphone is great and am glad its making the likes of Nokia be more productive but it will never do as well as the N95, appple is looking to sell 10million iPhone by the end of 2008 that a year and 6 months.

funny it was giz that reported the sales but nokia itself... Imagin if that was the iPhone, can u imagin the headline: "apple iPhone takes over world"

Nokia is sort-of positioning it as being an upgrade to the N95. If you watched the keynote speech that just ended a moment ago, they showed it next to the N95 and said "the N96 is like a turbo-charged N95".

Oh I agree that it's great how the iPhone has woken people up to the importance of the user experience and the "cool"-factor of the device. And definitely things have started happening at a faster pace thanks to it.

However the "fast rate" of sale is what I was disputing. The N95 has not been out much longer than the iPhone (the N95 has been on sale since the end of March 2007 - the iPhone since June 2007) and it's clearly outselling the iPhone.

The fact that Apple hasn't brought the iPhone to more markets is their own failing and that's a factor to the poor worldwide sales more than it is a reason to excuse Apple for it.

The reason I brought this up was that you often see people say "the iPhone has sold more than any other model ever" on Gizmodo (paraphrased), which is completely false. The Nokia N73, for example, has sold 15 million units in a year and a half. The N95, we now know, has sold 7 million in less than a year. Both exceed the iPhone, which has sales that have slowed down to a crawl in Europe. The N95 on the other hand doesn't seem to be slowing but rather speeding up!

@Kim98: It doesn't shatter mine. The iPhone hasn't even been out for a year and is grabbing market share at a very fast rate. Also take into account that they only offered it with certain carriers in limited countries...it's actually quite impressive. I could care less if they outsold everyone as long as it stimulates great products from all manufactures in competition.
