I got good using the FPS master controller with Halo 2 - and had a lot of fun using it - the shape of the controller was fantastic (like bicycle grips almost) and the buttons were soft touch enough that a light twitch would be enough to activate them)
The ONLY problem, was the build quality - the triggers were like air soft triggers and really poorly made - one snapped off in my fingers one day and that was the end of the FPS controller...

This looks like a suitable replacement though.

Ph30nix

i had an fps master for original xbox. the idea seemed a no brainer to me - all controls available all the time instead of needing to relinquish aim on the right stick to do anything like melee or board. unfortunately the fps master sucked because the sticks themselves were taller and lighter than the xbox default, making you swing wildly around. possibly it couldve been relearned, but it would have taken months of playing like an idiot to regain the familiarity of standard controller proportions.

i still believe the idea is sound though, and this looks like the best solution - use a normal pad. ive questioned why pads these days even use face buttons at all except to accommodate, literally, retards who need to physically see the bright coloured buttons they need to press. your thumbs should be on the sticks at all times.

id hesitate to call it cheating. its more that the default option sucks and this fixes it. it still uses a joypad, the buttons are just more readily available. if you want to criticise cheating, look to the kb/mouse adapters out there.

red

OK, so really the main reason this has sucked in halo3 is that you can't aim/look and melee. the other buttons are for picking things up switching between them or juming. but the 'bumper jumper' layout fixed that deficiency. pwned.

juliANSR

@STEEL_PELICAN: There is no skill in console shooters as this controller is marketed towards console FPS and all console FPS have a built in aimbot to make aiming easier and if that wasn't enough then guns are designed(GoW) to compensate for the players lack of aim by having the gun spray a large area of the cone of fire. Not only that most popular Console FPS have shields or huge amounts of health so that if you get shot you just have to go hide.

Skill, quickly responding and aiming is still the domain of the PC FPS while timing and location are the consoles! If you consider being at the right place at the right time Skill then I don't see the point in arguing.

Gudranx

I think this is perfectly acceptable. One area that the pc wins is the plethora of control options. I have never found anything as convenient as a five button mouse, but this mod brings the controller closer to that level. the idea hear is that you don't have to move your thumbs or trigger finger away from were they should be. This wouldn't be such a big problem though if console games utilized fully mappable button layouts. Then i could just set my controller up however i want and not have to work with the limitations of what the game dev's though would be some good layouts.

luciusad2004
